FS S.Smith & Son 18 kt. gold-cased chronograph from about 1910

    In beautiful, virtually mint condition. Swiss 18 carat gold open face case numbered 117369, sponsor’s mark G.D (George Dimier, watch importers, Cannon Street, London), import hallmarked 1911.

    In very good original condition: dial, case and movement showing almost no signs of use. Has been cleaned, keeping good time.

    Three-quarter plate ‘extra-quality’ keyless movement with all the chronograph work mounted on the top plate, which also carries Smiths time-ball trade mark. ‘NM’ (non-magnetic) straight line detached lever escapement with steel escape. Compensation balance, palladium balance spring with overcoil. Perfect signed enamel dial with 30-minute counter at 12, original matching gold hands. Diameter 51mm.

    Dome/dust cover beautifully engraved: ‘Presented to E R Coote…by Laurence, Scott & Co, Norwich, on the 25th Anniversary of their Incorporation… 1913. This firm is still in business in Norwich, operating as A T B Laurence Scott.

    Samuel Smith & Sons ‘Makers to the Admiralty’ London, one of the largest retailers of Swiss and English made precision and technical pocket watches of the period.


    Included will be a copy of the illustrated ‘Smith & Sons Ltd Guide to the Purchase of a watch’ dating about 1900, reproduced in 1978. This is a description of Smith & Sons and the watches they offered at the time, 125 pages.
