Picked up this 4100, but the crowns stem has snapped. Where can I get parts?

I'd also want to swap in a strap as I'm not a bracelet guy - aftermarket straps?

Can't help with parts. I suspect Audemars Piquet is like most of the higher end Swiss companies who no longer supply parts. I would ask exactly what kind of an alternate strap or bracelet are you likely going to find that will fit that case. I may be wrong, but I think you will have to become a bracelet guy if you want to wear the watch.

OK my watchmaker in NY will do this, but he has no access to parts. I did a bit of research and the caliber 2123 movement is the same as JLC 889, VC 1126 and Iwc cal: 3256 -A3252?

If so, a crown stem from the VC, IWC and JLC will work with the AP?

I have not found anyone that has straps readily available for the 36mm RO. Nor does anyone carry the plots necessary for a strap conversion currently as far as I know, there's just no demand for them. AP themselves might have a limited selection of straps and possibly the plots since the Pictet & Cie limited edition came on a strap, but that's the only watch I know of in that configuration. Older 36mm ROs with straps had different case shapes that would not work with your style case. AP only sells straps and strap related parts directly so it may be worth the call but they will be expensive.

How 'bout AP Bands? They also have the necessary end-clips. Maybe worth a call?

Bite the bullet - call AP and find out what a service with then will cost.

Messing around, doing anything that would later affect value would seem a bit daft.

I've read around and it looks like $1K+ to service. My regular watchmaker will do it but he does not have access to AP parts. He does have access to JLC and IWC parts though, so if the movements are the same, he can work on it.

Technically the Audi 80 1.8 litre petrol engine is from the same engine line as the 3 litre Porsche 964 turbo... not sure I'd be using a drive shaft from the Audi on the Porsche.

Not to be too much of a Dick, but you bought a high end watch... put your hand in your pocket and pay for a high end service. ::facepalm1::

The first part makes some sense to me - same movement does not mean same case size which affects the length of the crown stem.

On the watchmakers's subforum on WUS, someone has suggested to me that I instead use a stem extender instead of getting a whole new stem.

2nd part of your comment, if I can get the same kind of service at a 1/5th of the cost and 10x faster turnaround, more money for watches and hookers yes?

Fix it proper... don't mess around.

I also wouldn't rely on what people on forums say about service pricing... call AP... then you know for sure.

Also if the stem has snapped, who knows what other AP only parts are in need of replacement inside the movement.

Hookers have never been my thing - correctly serviced and maintained mechanical devices... that's where my money goes. ;)

Your watchmaker should be able to make a new stem for you but then, two or three hours of his time would make it an expensive stem.

    Send it to AP.

While we blather on about originality and patina on Rolex subs and tropical Speedmasters, that watch is not one that looks attractive with incipient corrosion on the dial.

Please it's on the way to being tropically healthy. So more $$ when he sells it!

Part of the whole point of the Royal Oak is the bracelet - you won't understand until you wear it - please give it a chance ....

Actually, for the life of me, I never saw what everyone else sees in the AP ROO, but then again, I have weird tastes...
