One for the SM 300 guys.
I have been sorting through my hands and have noticed some with a rounded profile while others have a flat profile, are the flat ones later service hands? They are tritium and are old but I have not noticed flat SM300 hands before, maybe I wasn’t looking close enough.
Also I have a pair which are rounded where the minute hand is shorter, anyone know what these are from? Definitely Omega but not sure what from.
The second hands are different too, the lower pair are correct but the upper pair? I have never noticed this style before.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Michael

Just noticed this SM 300 on another thread, so two types of second hand?

Not sure about the rounded vs flat but the shorter seconds hand with the longer pointer is from the earlier references with baton hands and may have crossed into the earliest references with sword hands.
14755, 165.014, and 165024-63 and -64. Perhaps 165024 as well. I’m sure @kox could add much more to the discussion.

Because so many parts were swapped during services you see many sm300s with incorrect assortments of parts and bezels. Been thinking when this (kox and Dash1) reference book comes out there will be a massive reckoning in the collections out there similar to what has happened with Speedmasters.

An exciting time indeed for Seamaster collectors.
There’s some coveted information about to come down the pike and personally I’m really excited to learn more.

the rounded ones will be the original hands. same with Railmaster hands. and the early Speedmaster Dauphine hands are rounded too. i do not have a Ranchero left for checking, but i guess that was there as well. if i recall that correct, the flatter ones started in the late 60`s/early 70`s. Kox might know more about the Sea 300 hands.... kind regards. achim

The hands labelled flat look pressed flat where the rounded ones have a lovely curve and just look to have more quality to the finish, like Achim says, just like on early Speedmaster hands.

    Thanks.

I have seen more shorter-tip second hands on later models than the early ones but this is purely my limited observation. Thanks for creating an interesting thread.

Maybe my post was overly complicated.

This is an early 165024-64 with the earliest bezel type
Look at where the arrowhead of the hand transitions to the needle outside of the minutes track.

And here is a late 165.024 with late bezel type, again compare the transition of the arrowhead to needle but this happens within the minutes track.

The shape of the arrowhead is slightly different too but spotting them is easier by using this minute track measuring trick.

IMO @Rman is correct in his assessments regarding the seconds hands. Yes, there are two types of "teardrop" seconds hands for the SM300. And yes they first appeared on the late 14755's and were the long tipped/short fat body type. The short tipped/long slim body type were used onwards from around the transition phase where the -64's subreferences became the non subreference 165024 and 165014's. And yes, more about that in the book to come
    ::book::

@michael e , regarding the short baton minute hand. My guess would be the railmaster 135.004. Hole size for the cal 28x minute hand is almost the same as the cal 55x. Plus 0,15mm if I recall correct. Hard to see that in pictures.

And regarding the flat vs. rounded question, yes, it's also my opinion that any flat ones are later/early service hands. @michael e , do you have pictures of the backside of the hands?

I think, as with most things Omega it is more varied and less definite than 2 types and a defined date of transition. I have this 1968 big triangle that came in very original unserviced condition with a short body long tip.

What about the silver spear second hands that also appear. Service or original?

The first sm300 I owned had a silver second drop ... it was just mounted upside down ...and paint removed

Lot of great info here. Not much to add but I can show a comparison of the short and long seconds hands.
