rotated chapter ring

I was watching this FL 36000 sell on ebay just now. The chapter ring (is that the correct name?) is rotated 90 degrees. You can see the double lume dots are near 3 o'clock, but should be at 12.

I would like to know if such a fault is an easy fix, or a sign of disaster to be avoided. Thanks for any help.

No idea.

It could be as simple as a misaligned keyway, or it could be a bucket of poo.

I recently scored a couple of Seikos to use as movement donors.
Lucky I didn't need them to be original, dial legs on both dials had been ground off and just stuck to the movement with glue.

Thanks Jim.
So it is an unknowable quantity, expect the worst.

also note these appear to be misaligned with each other....or the alignment of the ring is a complete mess...馃槙

That's right. I don't know anything about the topic, & wondered if they were a friction fit. Jim's post suggests they are keyed, so flopping all over the place shouldn't happen. That makes sense.

There are different designs. Some like Seiko are keyed, and often keyed poorly (they don't line up even when properly seated).

Some are just a tension ring fitted to the crystal (some Omegas are like this) and can easily be oriented correctly.

This one - no idea what system they use.
