Nice Nick - thanks. It's similar to my WW1 Rolex (see thread "Ww1 and a little Rolex History", below). Same London hallmark (1914) and mfr markings, same 13''' higher-grade Rebberg movement (they came in either 7 jewel or 15 jewel versions), and enamel dial typical of the era. Nice hinged silver case. I find it hard to believe, though, that the lume (which would have been radium) is original, but I suppose it's possible. Otherwise in nice shape. I won't comment on the asking price. 馃檮

Hi Chris, your thread is what made this jump out at me and why I thought this link might be interesting.

I share your thought on the price

Thanks,
Nick

I actually have one of these you can have for much much less than that one if you want.

How is the lume? To me, the dial lume looks too perfect on the eBay watch, but perhaps I'm off base.

I'd have to find it among all my stuff, but it's much more worn and torn than this one, more likely original.

I always thought Rolex watches marked Rolex on the dial were produced after 1921. If that is so this Rolex watch be a trench style watch- not from WWI

My understanding is that after Wilsdorf & Davis registered the trade name "ROLEX" in 1908, it was often, but not always, used on dials. Dowling & Hess's book shows several WW1 vintage models that display the name on the dial. The watch in this thread, like my own - see http://omegaforums.net/threads/ww1-and-a-little-rolex-history.4904/ - has a sterling silver case hallmarked London 1914. Mine is also inscribed with the date of its presentation to the poor Australian soldier who was heading off to the western front: December 3, 1915. So clearly these are both genuine WW1 trench watches though both have ROLEX on the dial.
