Rolex Submariner 1680 Red - your thought

Dear OF memebers,

I am a complete newbie in terms of Rolex watches and I do not particularly like them.
However, I have to admit that I really like the vintage style of the 1680 red. The more I see it, the more I feel my wrist needs it...

Here is a 1680 that I have seen for sale.
According to the seller, the serial number is 36008XX so the watch was produced in 1973.
The dial is a Mark V with a nice patina.

What are your thoughts on this one? Do you identify service parts on it? What would be a reasonable price to pay to grab this one?

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate.

Cheers.

Dr. R.

As always, depends on the asking price. Is part of the minute track missing in the upper right portion? It might just be the light in that one photo, but that would really bother me.

The upper left lug looks a little thin but not terrible. A large part of the value of these is in the dial and the loss of some of the minute markers over time is very common but does reduce the value a little. These vintage reds are super hot right now and the value is almost reset daily but I would expect to pay north of $15k most likely.

Thank you for your aswers. I did not even notice the problem with the minute track...

The asking price is 11500€ (about 14k$).

May I ask where you are seeing this watch for sale.
This watch with a couple of pictures of the same background was for sale this summer in Europe. See link below:
http://affaires1157.rssing.com/browser.php?indx=62939209&item=6265

You may want to ask for more picture to include the reference numbers, serial and model.
Be careful out there.. It's a mine field.

You are right, this is the watch we are talking about. The seller has provided me an additional picture upon my request with my name written on a piece of paper, so I have no doubt he owns the watch.

Thank you for your precious help and expertise. Be sure I will let you know if I buy this one 👍

Cheers.

Make sure you see photos of the case engravings between the lugs, showing the serial number and reference number.

Concerning the minute track, how do you expect the damage can deplete the price? I mean, by taking into account this worn minute track, do you think 11k€ is a reasonable amount for this one?

Here is a picture of the serial number provided by the seller upon my request.

Thank you again guys.

Regards from France.

Romain.

I do not like the engravings on this one. But, wait for others to chime in.

Damage to the dial is the single biggest factor that detracts from value.

I am suggesting again to pass on this watch.

If I see a mid case like that, I would want everything else perfect, which is not the case (pun intended)..

TTG Do those engravings, especially the serial, look correct to you?

This case has been re engraved, presumably to match the dial or some other paperwork. See attached for comparison.
Numbers are wrong and so are the letters. I think the parts are genuine but, dial is damaged and case re-engraved so 100% pass for me.
