Something common with the 1972ish era and tritium plots are a waffle like press onto the plot visible from certain angles.
For example, this is a dial that I have that shows this effect. The pic shows it very pronounced.

Tritium most usually covered the entire plot or even went outside the whiteout range.

.
So here are some pictures of the HQ Milton site that show several Mk-2 dials, 1972ish.

Usually a very thin layer of tritium of what appears to be a press down effect onto the plot.
.
now let's look at the OP's dial from one of the pics that is posted.

Look to the left of the 12 o'clock triangle, note the line parallel to the left side of the triangle, as if there was material there before, same can be seen to the top of the 11 o'clock round plot. OP, loop around the other plots closely.

Here is a relume job on a watch that I own. Pretty good job. Not a thin coat of tritium and it does not have waffle effect on it either. The relume is maintained primarily within the white plot..

Yes, there are some watchmakers doing some fantastic jobs out there, even adding the "sparkles"... and other material to for example gilt dials and hands.

The OPs watch has value and will continue to increase because of the accessories. But with a caveat on the dial/hands.

Good Luck!

Wouldn't all the vintage watches on earth need to have that caveat re their dials and hands then? 馃槙

@TTG, that's exactly what I have observed on MK2's as well. The 'waffle effect' is more pronounced on some versus others, but at a minimum the plots are relatively flat which your post illustrates very nicely.

One last note about UV, can't be trusted as some have pointed out. Counterfeit providers / dealers always resort to 'performed UV test' as a sales pitch, I usually run when I read that.

Good discussion for everyone and thanks for sharing.

Interesting thread that made my afternoon not very productive at work...

My questions are :
- How come those fantastic watchmaker that can even make sparklets were not able to reproduce the same waffle flat index plots ?
- Why those "rare" round plots are necessarily wrong/redone/not legit/relumed ? What if it was just a different production batch made by another subcontractor ? (as a reminder a lot of Rolex components were done by sub contractors - and still as of today)

I am far to be an expert but my 1675 mk2 has round plots with a few sparklets under the UV lamp. I've been told by a lot of rolex expert it was legit.... now what ?

looks like our posts have been "migrated" to a new thread.... could make sense though....

Someone asked that a thin white parallel line with old material is visible between the dial and the lume plot... but isn't it the dial itself ? markers are white underneath the tritium right ? (or am i wrong ??)
