Rolex King Midas Help - Real or Fake?

Perhaps you can tell us why one view of the face of the watch shows the name ROLEX and the Rolex crown symbol, but the other face view DOESN’T show the name and logo. Is that a little tricky bit of Photoshop legerdemain on your behalf?
(I suspect you know it’s not), I’m gonna call it a fake. There is (was?) a Rolex King Midas, but this is not it!

The is no picture of a King Midas in this thread!

The watch is a blatant fake!

Perhaps do 1 minute of research next time before spouting absolutes. It's insulting to the owner to call his Grandfather's watch an absolute fake. Not only that but you misread the original post and then proposed CoDiffe had photoshopped the image to deceive us?

Good effort 🤨

@Canuck is a respected member with valid commentary . We all make mistakes sometimes. Sometimes booze is the factor(esp in my case) other times some watches just look fake. In this case I assumed fake at first and then randomly decided to do some digging. The King Midas is almost always referring to the more massive piece. I was also unaware Rolex had a second model with the same name.

So! For the record. What is YOUR opinion on the subject watches? Huh? Explain YOUR point of view! I still have not seen any evidence that changes my opinion! It seems to me the OP is in no hurry to provide conclusive evidence so the pedigree can be proven for once and for all.

@Canuck did you try googling the reference number or look at the link I posted? It looks like the real deal. What sort of evidence would convince you?

Btw, I think that @loniscup's point about the text normally being on the crystal as opposed to on the dial makes perfect sense. All of the watches with the same ref. I've seen online has had gemstone dials of some sort and I assume that printing on those could be troublesome. I think that it's a genuine watch with a replaced, generic crystal.

I did open the link you posted. But I still need to see what is INSIDE the case of the subject watch! I have never seen any Rolex watch held together with screws in a manner like the subject watch is held together. Basically, I’ll change my mind after someone proves to me it is a real Rolex!

Sometimes it's better to not cry wolf. Just sayin....

Nah, it will turn out to be a plated case housing a cheap quartz movement. Screws, pfft - who did they think they were fooling? 🙄

I'm no expert, but the quality on that bracelet of engraving and stamping, as well as fit and finish is WAY too high for this to be a fake. Not really sure why that conclusion was jumped to, and then doubled down on.

Ultimately though, I doubt there is a lot of value here over the scrap gold/diamond price. That's my opinion, not based in any fact. Who knows with Rolex and Rolex collectors.

I stated in my earlier post that the plan is to take it to a watchmaker this week and have them open the caseback and I’m going to get pics of the movement and update the post accordingly.

I’m not trying to trick or deceive anyone. I want to know if it’s real or not! What I stated in my original post is all true. This was my grandfather’s watch (he’s passed away) that my grandmother gave to him. She’s now passed the watch down to my mom.

Quite easy to pop the case back open. I can see the edge you need to pry open gently

For the record I did try this and it’s on there TIGHT and me prying a few times was scratching so I decided to stop. Gonna let the watchmaker take it off.

Some members here seem to believe that they will gain internet fame and fortune by being the first and loudest to declare "fake." This might be understandable if OF awarded karma points like reddit. Redditors love to accumulate karma points, even though they can't do anything with them. Remember what Drew Carey said:

"Welcome to "Whose Line Is It Anyway?," the show where everything's made up and the points don't matter. That's right, the points don't matter, just like the salad bar at a strip club."

I’d hate to tell anyone to eat crow 😁 but this sure does look real to me.

Thoughts?

Irrefutable evidence that it is the real thing. I admit it. In spite of all the things I felt that didn’t look right, the movement is proof enough that it is real. I’ll try to develop a liking for crow.

Haha, well to be honest, I thought it might be fake too which is why I posted it in the first place. I really think it's an aftermarket crystal which is why there's no Rolex logo.

Is that diamonds around the movement or just decoration?

Counter sunk holes were drilled through the dial from the front of the dial. The diamonds were lowered into the holes, then a stone setter secured the stones with special punches. You are seeing the pavilions of the diamonds through the holes, from the under side.

Cheers, I was wondering about this!
