The up-sizing of the dive watch. For the longest time Rolex has been the trend-setter but with the new 43mm Sea-Dweller, it seems to me Rolex is following Omega's lead (or the market in general) this time with the larger dive watch. This new 43mm Sea-Dweller case shape & size is very similar to last years release Planet Oceans. The demand for a larger than 40mm sports watch is real - and Rolex acknowledges it.
Not the exact 43mm size per say - but Omega "up sized" last year from 42mm and this year Rolex did the same.
Rolex already did have the Deepsea at 43 though years ago, and they pushed the Exp2 up to 42mm in 2011/2012 (I forget as it never appealed to me). The whole industry has moved bigger in recent years but is also starting to pull back a bit.
I dig the new SD, just underwhelmed by it. The red text does nothing for me. Was hoping for a color gradient.
Too bad their new SeaDweller has that ugly cyclops on the sapphire. The red "SeaDweller" font is a nice touch. Much like the Pelagos in their LHD tudor.
40mm-42mm is perfe for dive watches. But 43mm, red font, and cyclops? Thx for nothing Rolex. Their real star that should be getting the attention is the Cellini moon phase!
That's just too big...I'm 6'3", with 8.25in wrists, and anything over 40 mm just looks too Flavor Flav already...
I have the 42mm ExpII and I'm very happy with it. 43mm on the Sea-dweller would be fine for me, and I like the red text, but the lack of Cyclops was something that made the former SD very appealing to me. Looks like the only SD on my wrist will be the older version (pre-ceramic).
Not enough data for now. The thickness, the weight, which kind of a clasp - regular like Sub or like DSSD...
