Rolex DeepSea Challenge 2012

It looks like Rolex decided the DeepSea was not quite deep enough, not quite for James Cameron's dive to the bottom of the Marianas Trench. There's a great video on the making of the DeepSea Challenge here:

That's a big chunk of watch !. Not sure why Rolex are making watches with such deep pressure ratings, James Cameron could wear a Casio G shock in his titanium diving sphere, as the inside pressure is stable. Still a very impressive sports watch.

you mean as an exercise to see if it will hold up to the pressure ?. judging by thickness of the watch I think the diving sphere will give in before the watch !!.
Love to see a wrist shot if anybody is lucky enough to own one ?.

IMO, it would look a lot nicer without D E E P S E A C H A L L E N G E - R I N G L O C K S Y S T E M . If you make a watch that survives the bottom of the Marianas Trench, you can write about it in the booklet rather than etch it in to steel. It's not like anyone's going to forget (or overlook the rating on the dial).

If Rolex wrote a book about this watch they'd charge $800 for it, an extra $150 for the dust cover and $1500 for the hard back !!

Thanks for bringing to our attention this Rolex achievement and with this, it means Rolex is the undisputed master of diver watches, leaving other manufacturers some light years behind.

I am sure Rolex will try to compress this massive case and produce a watch that can be put on one's wrist. With Rolex, anything is possible. Who would at one time believed that a wrist-watch could be 100% waterproof? Rolex did it with amazing results. Little wonder, Rolex is the King of Watches, especially in the world of sports.
