I have for sale a full set Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 'Zenith' ref.16520 in excellent conditions, with a perfect case and a beautiful black dial.
The famous "inverted 6" dial, which is highly sought-after by collectors, has developed an amazing patina and counters have turned light brown.
N serial number, circa 1992.
The watch was sold in 1992 in Spain by the official Rolex retailer 'Joyeria Saphir' and it comes with the original box and papers from the first owner, an Italian football manager which name can be found not only on the service papers but also on the original box.
The watch is original in every parts and runs well keeping good time.
THE STORY:
Introduced in 1963, the Rolex Daytona has reached legendary status in the watch collecting world and is widely considered to be one of the most desirable timepieces ever, regardless of being vintage or contemporary.
In 1988, to celebrate the Daytona’s 25th anniversary, Rolex released the ref. 16500 series, which eventually included the Rolex Daytona Ref. 16520 as their first collection of automatic chronographs.
Based on Zenith's El Primero movement, this Rolex Daytona ushered in a new generation for the model line.
While the nickname and base caliber harken back to the original maker, Rolex performed over 200 modifications to the movement, bringing it up to the brand's standard, to create their caliber 4030.
The collectability and desirability of this Daytona generation seems to grow by the day with more and more collectors paying attention.
By 2001, just a year after the first Daytona with an in-house movement was released, the ref. 16520 was hitting record sales at the auction blocks and reaching collectible status.
The Rolex Daytona is a model which every enthusiast should own at some point due to its iconic status and the 16520 acts as a bridge for the Daytona shifting from vintage to modern, being the first automatic movement of the Rolex chronograph family, making it a true game changer.
CASE:
The case is even and thick.
Serial and reference number are fully visible.
Original 16520 caseback, correctly stamped 16500.
BEZEL INSERT:
Original Rolex 400 UPH bezel in perfect conditions.
DIAL/HANDS:
The dial is an original and rare Rolex Mk3 "inverted 6" dial in excellent conditions with an amazing patina and discolored sub-dial rings that have turned light brown.
All lettering is clearly visible and correct.
Indexes and hands are tritium and they match each other perfectly.
Tritium is original and was checked with UV light.
BRACELET:
The bracelet is the original 78360 Oyster bracelet with 503 endings, full length (13 links) and in very good conditions.
The clasp is original to the watch and the code (P) matches the serial number.
CRYSTAL:
Sapphire crystal in excellent conditions.
MOVEMENT:
Correct 4030 Rolex Zenith-based automatic chronograph caliber running well.
The number of movement matches the year of the serial.
The movement was serviced in 2010 by Rolex authorized service center.
Water Resistance: 6 bar.
BOX AND PAPERS:
The watch comes with the original Rolex box (inner/outer) with "16520" sticker, the Rolex warranty holder (green folder), the original guarantee (punched papers), the Rolex calendar, the Rolex booklets ('Your Rolex Oyster', 'Rolex Cosmograph Daytona') the Rolex authorized service center invoice.
Asking 34000 Euro, insured shipping included.
