Rolex Celebration OP

Saw one on eBay in 36mm for under 10k. Whether you like this very unique dial or not, that’s way lower than it would be listed on a legit preowned retailer like WatchBox. No eBay authentication. So I pm’d the seller and asked. Seller says this is a “customized dial” and eBay only authenticates watches with all original parts. Says “I’ll sell you one with an original dial but it will cost you 30k”. And the funny thing is the fake balloons dial came with box and papers. So basically they took a standard OP and replaced the original Rolex dial with a fake balloons dial and marked up the price. Bizarre.

How will the seller avoid eBay authentication? Isn't that required for watches over a certain value in most markets?

Does listing state custom dial?
Here is the listing, which does indicate the dial is aftermarket.

This was my question as well. The seller is in NY and I was under the impression that anything over a certain value is required to go through Authentication. However, the authentication badge and wording are missing from this listing. I’m under the impression that as the listing description says “aftermarket”, the watch is excluded from the service. For comparison, here is a genuine reference, which clearly mentions the authentication service twice.

Here’s what truly puzzles me about the “custom” dial listing for $9800. They say that this is a 126000 with “box and papers”. If those papers are legit, then this watch started out its life with an authentic dial, probably the more common silver/black/blue sunray. So a brand new black dial 126000 with B&P would likely sell for about $7500-8000 right now on eBay (retail is $6100). But since someone replaced the authentic dial with a fake (aka “aftermarket”) dial they now want $9800 for the watch. I think it should be worth less with the fake celebration dial than an authentic sunray dial.

FTR, ebay's authentication's bypassed if in the listing the watch is noted as being 'customized.'
