HI Guys, I am always passively looking for boxes for my older watches and this popped up in my saved searches. I know there are fakes of the modern and even the older globe boxes out there so don't want to get ripped off. The seller has tons of feedback, but some of the negative says he sells fake boxes...but obviously 1% negative is hard to take as the rule rather than the exception. The watch I am looking to pair it with is a 1999 Airking 14000. I would like to get as close to the correct era for the watch (I know there was changes in paperwork style etc), so this being a '96 is pretty damn close. Please let me know what you think. https://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-RO...195545?hash=item261fad1ad9:g:2rwAAOSwEEVdCFlxPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
I would think this is legit. The replica boxes I am guessing are like new but the faded letters and what ever those spots are inside the box, that does not have come recently.
Yup, I bought it. I figured with the spotting inside the cardboard box (probably humidity), and the wear on the box, both inner and outer, it had to be either genuine or an incredible patination job. So from what I have read, this should be the correct box for a '99 model, things started to change after '00 apparently. I know I'll never have the warranty cert that came with the watch, but it would be nice to have all the stuff that came in the box. It has the "Your Rolex Oyster" brochure, but what other paperwork would have been in the box. I've seen the green card wallet online with translation book and calendar card (which I assume for a '99 production watch would have a 00-01 calendar). Was there other brochures or papers in the box I need to hunt down? Would an Airking even have a calendar card since there isn't a date on the watch? Did all the watches from this era come with the white cloth? Anyone got a pic of the full kit for a late 90's Airking so I have a map of what else I need to hunt down?
Just do an internet search, or do a search of HQ milton Now you still cant be sure that all of what you see is genuine, as there a lot of people out there who are doing what you are doing, but you will know when you see a truly genuine full set - as it will have everything, including sales receipts, correctly numbered hangtags etc etc Also, check to see the box is correct for the date of sale
I was having a chat to an AD about the booklets that come in the box. He stated that it was whatever was available at the main distributor at that time. E.g. a 2002 Rolex sub could have 2000 ‘Your Oyster’ booklet and a 2001 ‘Submariner’ booklet. Also if you have a slow selling model or one that get forgotten it could sit in the AD’s safe for a while. In many cases we put of an emphasis on these details than they do. Not sure if that helps in you search or not.
This is exactly what I have been understanding, and of course us collectors obsess about the crap they never did. We care about date codes on bracelets, but if a bracelet was sitting around for 3 years at the bottom of a bin, on a watch it would go. Just goes to show that like life, all of this stuff is arbitrary and there is no master plan.
...and of course it went right into the closet and the watch back in the watch drawer..that was $100 well spent
I would say it's genuine , I know you've already bought it & just for comparison here is my 99 full set & yours definately matches it .
