There was a watch n jewelry auction here last May 23 and i managed to land this beautiful Rolex Submariner 5513 with gilt gloss dial. Everything on this watch matches including the riveted bracelet. Dial is in great shape n the case looks to be lightly polished for presentation purposes. The bezel is the only part that may need replacement because of the visible chips. Another great addition to my collection.

Looks a great example. I wouldn’t replace the insert unless it’s actually broken - would be a shame to part it from the watch if it’s original.

Agree, unless of course you come across a nice correct "fat" font insert. Ghosted or otherwise. The replacement/ service skinny font inserts don't do it for me.

I might not replace the bezel for the time being. I am getting to like it and its flaws are hardly noticeable unless you stare at it intently. Of course, i would still look for a nice long 5 fat font bezel and keep it as a spare.

Now you are talking sense. It is the original and that is more charming then a replacement. Even with all its nicks and bruises

Amen. The nicks and bruises are part of the watch”s history.

Awesome pickup, congrats! I echo the comments above, keep the bezel as is, great fade and likely original to the watch. Of course, having a spare is never a bad thing

It is quite special to find a watch that was intended (and likely used) as a dive watch (ie, that was subjected to quite some abuse) and that is found 50 years later in such good condition.
