Hi all, I recently acquired a R serial 16570 Circa 1988 but apparently the date disc is not open 6” and 9”. It is correct or should I be concern and period correct? Thanks.

Are you sure it’s a 1988? Everything I’ve read seems to indicate the 16570 was introduced in 1989.

Not totally sure about the open 6 and 9 but with the 16570 Rolex introduced the 3185 movement and I believe those all had the same date wheel font. I have a 1990 polar 16570 and it looks very similar to yours.

Thanks! Yours looks great too. I think the yellow patina pops a bit with the black painted hour marker surrounds and white dial.
I wouldn't worry about the open 6 or 9. Mine doesn't have it either and ours are same watch, movement, etc. just two years apart.

How did you guys get this awesome patina on your watches?))) Mine is from 95, not changing color at all.

From what I’ve heard, being in the dark for long extended periods of time is what does it. Who knows for sure though. I actually traded an 05 polar for my current and I believe the previous owner just left it in a safe most of the time.

That makes sense mate, because mine is never in the safe or dark environment.

Beautiful dial with those creamy lime, but I think that ref looks better on oyster bracelet.

I’ve got it as well but don’t ever wear it. In all honesty, I’m not much of a bracelet guy. Would much prefer a leather strap.
