to me only the bezel as I mentioned before. The rest looks kinda ok but if I'm right about the bezel then that does bring doubts about the rest.

Look at the tail shapes of the numerals in the bezel, particularly the fours. I haven't seen that before. normally they are more of a stick and don't have the broadening at the base or tail end

Now, i am not expert and if some year or version had these styled numerals then so be it, but I haven't seen it. I am looking around now and still can't.
I can see what you're saying Serge. The seller reassured me that the bezel is NOS and with my research it appears closest to the thick font full bezel illustrated in Mazzariol's blog. I am assuming that bc it's NOS those "tails" haven't had a chance to wear out and resemble what we normally see. I also couldn't find anything aftermarket that resembles this. Certainly a good point.

Yeah , I'm asking around and looking around and it does not check out. It is not wear, it is just a different font. I see examples of rolex restorations, new, old some slightly thicker, some thinner, some still with the paint, some worn out. Nothing resembles that font. not even on the etching of the engraving, paint or not paint. Here are some examples.

Not at all! The four maybe a little but overall the font is very different. ugh thinner on =yours, and much rounder (look at the 0, 6 and the 2 as well.)

I put them both here to save switching pages

The bezel on the OP's watch, when compared to the one above it in your post has a difference when it comes to the 24 as well. It appears to me anyway that the 4 is slightly higher than the 2.

Personally, it's one of my favorite watches, even one might say my Grail. I just have no idea how to price and grade these, I just know they have come down and used to be way out of my price range. I've purposefully not delved into to much research on them.

I don't think these have been coming down at all in the past few years; quite the opposite for those in better than average condition or without replaced parts.

Box and papers was $25k plus 7 years ago. I thought they are about $15k now.

The bezels are not even remotely similar...generally when a vintage watch, especially a desirable and expensive reference like this has the dial, hands and bezel replaced it is a red flag. Then you look at the case back...hmmm. Have you looked at the sellers history? My guess is its questionable. #warningwillrobinson

I've seen them this year (at least from dealers) for over 20K in excellent condition.

lovely watch! maybe a little overpriced for what it is (arguably), so as others have said, get it if you really love it! there are a lot of other options at the price you'd be paying 😉

This is the real McQueen
Too true.... Quite amazing how the name has stuck given the proven fact that for a large part of the 70's his watch of choice was indeed the not so common 5512!!!!!!

this watch (the 1655) was my grail for many years ... until I found out that the GMT hand is not really GMT basically its just a day/night indicator ...😒

cant be set independently from the hour hand and there is the non rotating bezel 🤔

... not my grail anymore ... 😁
