Rolex 1530 vs Royal Oak

Been eyeing Rolex 1530s lately (i.e. mechanical movements in an Oysterquartz case). I've always been drawn to these but have held off because part of me thinks they were trying to compete with the AP Royal Oak (and to a lesser extent, the Nautilus) and failed. In other words, maybe the Royal Oak is just a better design and I'd get tired of the 1530? Though, of course, no way I'm buying a Royal Oak in this environment haha.

Let me get this straight... you're not buying a Royal Oak (in this environment haha), and you have doubts about the Rolex and so are holding off.

Exactly what is your dilemma? 馃檮

I have never purchased anything based on the perceived marketing strategy of the manufacturer.

Okay maybe I need to rephrase my question - do you feel that you'd get tired of a 1530 or that it was a 'failed' design compared to a royal oak?

Let鈥檚 use a night club analogy. The AP is the hot girl and the Rolex is her friend.

Haha, that one got me to chuckle.

I don't think you can compare the two as rivals for purchase. To me, the 1530 is a great watch and I'm on the lookout for a really beautiful, all original example. The scarcity is nice too.
The Royal Oak is a totally different level.

In my opinion, buy the 1530 and enjoy it for as long as you can. If you get fed up of it, you're pretty certain not to lose money on it.

As a little reminder, the exotic Newman dial was a complete fail at that time and now, I'm pretty sure you would like to have one. So never base your decision on what others think. The 1530 is a pretty rare beast and personally I would go for it compare to a 15300.

Except the 1530 is harder to pick up than the friend...
