The Band is central to one of my favorite play lists on Spotify. Such a loss.

Oh man just read this then coming here to post a song of his. I loved the Band and Robbie seemed like a cool dude. He was with Dylan when Dylan went electric and they damn near blew up the stage as Dylan yelled louder as he was getting booed. Big loss for music but he will live on

I don’t have any “I met Robbie” for thirty seconds stories but I took my wife to one of Levon Helms midnight rambles in Woodstock and Robbie showed up to jam for a while. They did “the night they drove old Dixie down” and we all got up singing “Virgil quick come see, there goes Robert E Lee” my wife was amazed how good they sounded and we had recently been to Gettysburg so she caught it. It was just a great show.

Mind you not sticking up for the confederacy it’s just the imagery of the song. Actually probably amongst the best anti war songs written. Just funny how my wife became a band fan after seeing Robbie and levon. She never knew they existed prior to that night

A Canadian icon. He will be sorely missed, but his music will live on. As part of the band backing Ronnie Hawkins, as part of The Band, and his great solo work as well.

A group of locals put on a great concert last week here in a small town in the Colorado mountains. Most of the night was a series of solo or small group performances, but they wrapped it up with everyone coming on stage to improvise a performance of The Weight. The tune has been in my ear ever since.

The Last Waltz is unquestionably my favorite live recording and concert film. His work will surely live on.

Not Robertson, but I remember Capt. Ridley (played by Levon Helm) in THE RIGHT STUFF as my first exposure to THE BAND.
Later on when I was older, I loved the Robertson solo stuff as well.

Saw the Band open for the Grateful Dead at the latter’s final show (before Jerry Garcia died) at Soldier Field in ‘95. Fantastic performance by a group of consummate professionals. (It was not the most amazing show for the Dead, alas, but there were some highlights.)

I can’t find the clip that Robbie talking about giving up touring for health and sanity at the end of the last waltz. Does anyone remember what I’m talking about. However “I shall be released” is probably appropriate for this thread. Thanks for all the great music Mr Robertson.
