Hi everyone, Just wanting some opinions on this vintage 1970s Roamer chronograph. Seller says it was not worn too much, but hard to tell case condition from the photos. The dial looks good, plus patina is lovely. I think most of the visible marks are on the plexi. At 44mm it is a large, chunky retro piece and nothing like I have at the moment. It is also a Valjoux 726, so an awesome vintage movement , that I might be able to pick up for a reasonable price. And what do you think these go for? I have seen a few sold, but nothing too recent. Thanks, Ed
Hi Not a 726 , that would have three registers ... maybe a later version of a cal 23 ?? I always liked them but never had a chance to buy one... What is the asking price? Best Bill
Says it wasn't worn too much Solid watches that can range in price with condition. There is one in mint condition that pops up on WRUW every now and then. Not sure who owns it.
I owned one of these about 13 years ago Acquired from Germany It is NOT a comfortable watch to wear…the caseback digs into one’s wrist, and the bracelet is ‘sharp’, and feels cheap Subsequently sold the watch, to Canada…and achieved a minor ‘eBay record’ , with the price…at the time, about £600
Yes, val 23. Looks good to me, and I don't find them sharp to wear... You can find period videos of the advertising for this Roamer Jet-Time on the web. Quite a fun watch.
Val 23 is a lovely movement. Even better is that the servicing cost will be lower because there is no hour recorder It's got the roulette-like bezel and doesn't appear to be too chunky, especially if compared to a Benthos or 6105-8110.
A little too much watch for me, but $1.5k definitely seems reasonable for a unique chrono with a V23, no?
As you may know, the engraving on the caseback Mod. 023.0120... tells it should be a V23 movement. I like that watch but prefer the earlier and smaller V72 version (aka Björn Waldegaard) Best luck !
So I've ended up going for it, price was good and the watch is funky! ~if I don't bond with it i should hopefully be able to move it on
Hey. that´s cool, huge congrats and wear in good health The "Jet" dial (JT) with the 24h roulette bezel is much rarer than the "normal" version and matching. so it´s a great one.
Great looking chrono Eddie. I snagged this Stingray S today. Poor photos, but it is apparently ticking and for $100 Aussie pesos I should be able to get it serviced and still be ahead. Odd case set up with these. The crystal and inner case are pushed backwards out of the outer case, then the movement is accessed via the crystal
Quick update guys - still needs to go for a service as the chrono and minute hands don't like to reset, but otherwise ticks away well! It also looks great on original GF band, and a blue one I had laying around! I actually think the missing piece of lume from the hands, is stuck to the crystal. Maybe it can be re-attached.
Hi Nice watch ... What is the lug width ? The bracelet looks to be for the " Rockshell" line of watches from Roamer .... but looks great on your stingray ! Best bill
Hey @Bill Sohne Lug width is 20mm. I wasn't sure if this was the original bracelet, but the seller said it was what he got when he bought it, so it might have been added at the store. If anyone has more information, I would be appreciative Thanks! Ed
To revive an old thread, the watchmaker I dropped the watch off to have serviced, is having trouble opening the case, and says that he needs a special tool. Does anyone have any experience getting into these watches, and could provide some guidance? Thanks, Ed
Hi Ed, these watches have a special „container case“ and the opening seemes to be a bit hard. I have no experience with that. Same with my early Stingray V72 Best luck ! Hajo
Can we see the caseback, Ed. With my Roamer Stingray I pressed on the crystal to push the whole inner case backwards out of the outer case. Then it was easy to lift the crystal off to access the dial. Then I had to lift off the inner bezel to access the screws that would release the movement from the inner case.
