As the title says, another great one passes.

Such a talented man in many ways.

Somehow he was one of those people that I didn't think about ever passing, until it happened. How he lived for so long is amazing, and the size of his contribution to human knowledge is astounding.

A loss to the worlds of both science, and common sense.

    That accent though. ;)

He was wiser than we knew. This from the New York Times obituary:

Asked by New Scientist magazine what he thought about most, Dr. Hawking answered: “Women. They are a complete mystery.”

Definitely a sad moment when I saw the news first thing...a loss for humanity, as well as all those close to him.

Just watched his cameo on Star Trek the Next Generation, the poker game with Newton and Einstein. When he smiled his whole being seemed to radiate good feelings to all. He certainly learned to make the best of what he had.

One of my favourite aspects of the bloke is that although he's often seen as a professor, intellectual and academic, he also had a terrific sense of humour and was unashamedly a regular at gentlemen's clubs across the UK and US.
