I wasn’t even born when Bat Out of Hell came out and as a teenager in the 90’s when Britpop ruled supreme he certainly wasn’t fashionable. Nevertheless he was a massive part of my youth and each song on Bat brings back memories that make me smile.
RIP.

Bat Out of Hell....43 MILLION copies sold, #4 in history. When I was a kid, I didn't know anyone that didn't have a copy.

RIP Meatloaf. Always impressed me as a sincere guy, and one hell of a stage performer.

In 1992, I worked with a young therapist who was scheduled to go on a date with Meat Loaf’s daughter. He was agonizing prior, as to how he should address him. “Bob, do you think I should call him Mr. Loaf?”

He played softball on Saturdays with a friend of mine. Also in 1992, I was in LA visiting the friend and got to play softball with him (he was good, BTW). He introduced himself as "Meat". He was a very nice guy.

I've never been good at linking songs and the artists that performed them... Every time someone passes and I start combing through their songs I'm shocked at how many songs I know. There are only a handful of meatloaf songs that I could have said were his but there are so many more that I know by heart and never linked them.

He sang the National Anthem for the opening of the 1997 World Series Game in Cleveland.
Wow - what a voice, tremendous! Never heard a better National Anthem.

Always makes my day when a Meatloaf song comes on the radio when I’m driving around in my van.may not have heard the song for ages but the words just come flooding straight back and I find myself singing along like an idiot (who cares).thank you for the soundtrack of my teenage years.God bless.

He was a tremendous talent with a huge voice. I was in 7th grade when "I Would Do Anything For Love" came out and I remember hearing it everywhere I went. I quickly found a copy of Bat Out of Hell II, then found Bat Out of Hell and still have them after nearly thirty years.

Interesting (or not so) fact: Ellen Foley (Night Court Season 1, Cocktail, Tootsie and Fatal Attraction) performed "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" with him on the album, but couldn't make the tour and was replaced by Karla DeVito (Actor Robby Benson's wife) on the tour and in the video above.

Wasn’t it something like they didn’t think Ellen had the right look for the video so they drafted Karla in for the vid?

They say, “Never meet your heroes,” but I guess in the case of Meat Loaf, we have to make an exception.

Not but ten minutes ago, I finished a session with a patient who told d me she and a friend, who was suffering from breast cancer at the time, had backstage passes to see him at a concert eight years ago.

When they went to meet him, she said he couldn’t have been nicer and more empathetic to her friend, noting that someone in his family had battled the disease. She said, “He was extraordinary.”

Different versions, depending on who's telling it.
