Apparently Omega are going to release a limited edition bullhead for the Rio Olympics. It is going to have a blue face and blue strap, very similar to the planet ocean shade of blue. I don't know how many of these rumours actually turn out to be true, but it came from an omega sales agent. This is a watch that I actually love but I don tthink they are universally popular so it seems a bit strange to use the bullhead, unless they have a lot of parts they need to use up.
Nope. Only a personal opinion but some things shouldn't be resurrected and the bullhead is one of them.
I don't mind the MkII reissue Rio model, but this one doesn't make sense? The red line of thread on the strap & red chrono seconds hand should be orange if it's to tie in with the Rio colours, surely??
I bet the "orange" is actually yellow- the colors of the 5 Olympic Rings are black, yellow, red, green, and blue.
I just purchased one for $11200.50, from Sydney Omega Boutique MLC. First interested in LE White Dial Leather Strap '669' however purchased a PO Liquid Metal Chronometer instead... was a little disappointed I missed the 2013 re issue. The new RIO Bullhead is limited to 316. The '16' being the year and the '3' being from the fact that Golf has been played three times at the Olympics. I thought that a little strange as the bullhead was marketed as a drivers/ rally watch in 1969. I didn't like it the first time I saw it or wore it in the boutique; however on my re visit a week later I purchased it with a brown band. The colours represent the rings and even thought it's a little 'pop art' it looks good on, actually having one of my mates saying 'you can tell there is something special about it'. Everyone that has seen it likes it... but I don't think it would suit all tastes with its bold colours.
There's only one acceptable bullhead IMO and that's the Seiko one. Not a fan of the Omega ones at all, this one included.
Very cool pick Maxtor71. My go to is my PLOPROF; however my BHRIO is a keeper and I love it because... it will be a scarce watch and gives me personal satisfaction that I could be one of only two people in Australia (Sydney & Melbourne Boutiques selling one each I believe) to own one, is bold in design and colour and like my PLOPROF some think it's ugly and I love that as most of the 'haters' are wearing TAGS with SEIKO movements. Please note TAG owners, I love all watches and appreciate all horology... even my 9 year old daughters '$35.00 RIP CURL Watch' who didn't want anything else, I like.
Yeah, I know mate Usually I'd go the Omega option (the Seiko is my only non-Omega watch) but I think it's the crown, for want of a better term, at the bottom that throws me off and it's too big for my wimpy wrist.
There are always haters but I, personally, love the look of the PloProf. I don't think I have the wrists for it but I'd like to add one to the collection one day nonetheless. I tried on the Rio a few weeks ago, and it was better in person than in pictures. I just didn't pick it up because there are other watch priorities [emoji3].
You have to wear what you like . It's the only way to avoid buying everything on the planet . A watch can work in almost every way for you but unless it's got some X-factor (great story etc.) or feels 100% on your wrist, it's a no go. It's peaceful when you know what you want . Max
After the 2013 models and now a 2016 model I think the bullhead will keep making appearances in LE. I would be surprised to see it not reappear in 2018-2020. My prediction...
