Beautiful oversized 1970`s vintage Revue Cerberus watch. The watch measures 40 ( ex crown ) x 12,2 mm high including the domed acrylic glass, the case itself is only 8mm high with a 47mm L2L. Super dressy and comfortable to wear. The caseback still has some of the factory lacquer seale on it and i decided to leave it on there. The Cerberus name could have been for a specific market such as Australia/Pacific where i have seen some other versions for sale, but it is a guess. It has the MSR Manufacture type T46/28a handwound movement with gilded logo and runs at 19.800 A/h with circa 50 Hr powerreserve. The watch has a Double Safety shock protection licensed from Certina DS and Incabloc. MSR was the proprierty manufacture owned by Revue ( later Revue Thommen ) and also used by Vulcain ( cricket ) and Vertex watches. Check out Mitka`s pages with lots of history at www mitka.co.uk . This watch runs within + 2/3 seconds per day and was last fully serviced ( taken apart, cleaned, oil and assembled by an Omega certified watchmaker ) in February 2021, copy invoice available. It comes on a leather strap in good condition with the original double R Revue buckle. Included is the hang tag and blue watchbox as well as the ( unsigned ) guarantee booklet. The watch has a beautiful creme/white dial in superb condition apart from a missing lume pip at 3 o`clock and a tiny spot on the hour hand. All around applied markers with faceted edges, these are silver/metal colour but sometimes a golden hue. The bezel has the original soleil brushing, the case is not polished, you can feel the super sharp edges, and the only marks i can see some small scuffs on the right side lugs. Original signed crown. Not sure about value, another one i found was this one asking to much ; Revue Cerberus DS 40MM NOS 17 Jewels Stainless Steel Super Waterproof - YouTube But it is a rare bird, for it`s size in that era and it`s beauty so i am asking EUR 1.850 euro for the whole set including EU shipping ? Open to any better appraisels. Don`t hesitate because it is a vintage or old movement, as i include a fully working spare movement T46 for your peace of mind. Water resistance was tested at 3 ATM but don`t take it for a swimm !! Private sale and please ask if you have any questions. No sales here yet but i have good feedback on WuS, Dutch HF forum and 100% on ebay,
Nice oversized rare watch, with goodies, and a spare movement , what`s not to like ? So it`s not O or R, but way more unique !
From Mitka`s pages ; Despite its growing reputation, Revue faced stiff competition from the increasingly dominant Swiss watch manufacturing consortia – most prominently Allgemeine Schweizerische Uhrenindustrie AG (Société Générale de l’Horlogerie Suisse in French) (ASUAG) and Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogére SA (SSIH). Thus, in 1961, Revue and three other Swiss watch manufactures joined forces in establishing Manufactures d’Horlogerie Suisses Réunies SA (MSR) in Bienne. MSR’s other founding members were Buser Frères & Cie SA of Niederdorf, Phénix Watch Co. SA of Porrentruy, and Vulcain & Studio SA of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Revue’s Roland Straumann took the helm of the new group, tasked with “rationalizing” production. It was hoped that specialization would reduce costs, given all four companies historically had conducted in-house manufacture of ébauches (incomplete watch movements, typically consisting of plates, bridges, wheels, and barrels – to be later finished and fitted with jewels, escapement, mainspring, crown, hands, and dial) as well as independent in-house finishing and assembly. At its peak, the group produced over 600,000 watches per year, making it one of the largest Swiss watchmaking federations of the era. After their union, Revue focused on component production, Buser on assembly and Vulcain on product marketing, although each continued to operate as independent companies. While Buser, Phénix and Vulcain each merit their own historical profiles, this must await a later day.
Even put on me fancy shirt for y`all ..... and you know it`s hot today Live shots from just now and the sun makes the ol` acrylic give a nice shine ( and some reflections on the dial from those micro scratches )
Some other ones popped up on ebay as well, asking around a 1000,- no box papers and in much worse condition. Mine is gorgious and just euro 1350,- plus shipping. And with this 40mm case size, it rocks ! And with a spare movement it is future proof.
