Returning Case Pushers to Original Spec

I have been giving this a lot of thought lately. On one hand, I would much rather have a watch that I can wear outside without worrying about moisture getting inside. But on the other hand, I would love to see a vintage watch look as it should. I understand that with considerable difficulty, cases that have been serviced and modernised can be returned to push-fit pushers spec, even if they have been threaded for screw fit pushers. But my question is about the practicality and safety side of doing so. Has anybody carried out this procedure and managed to also put new seals and maintain water resistance on their watch? If so, how did you do it? I guess I’m looking to find a compromise between original looks and modern performance. Workaround solutions welcome!

On my 69 Speedmaster, a watch I intended to wear daily, I had my watchmaker use new pusher stems/seals with the original pusher caps. This allows for the pushers/seals to provide water resistance while maintaining the original and correct look of the watch.

But it is a great ride and when you get down here with the rest of us you will know ; it was all worth it.

The only solution for getting the right pushers and having some form of water resist is a change of mid case for one with the original pushers.

Yes that works great on all screw caps. My certified watch maker did not want to change the new caps for the guarantee and Omega rules - which is fair - so i did it myself. But i dont think that trick works on press in pushers.

I think if the remedy is a whole new case, I will just accept the modern service pushers!
I do have one strategy in mind though.. I think it’s only a matter of time before Omega releases a modern 321 powered moon landing watch - a perfect reconstruction of the 105.012 like they did with the Ed White. I expect if they do, it will have modern screw in pushers which have the look of the originals and same with the crown. At that point, I will see if I can’t scrounge up some parts from one!

That’s a nice workaround! I think the problem I would have is that the inner pusher part is a large part of what makes the look on a 105.012, so even with original caps, it would still not look right on mine. It’s just a shame there isn’t a service part with correct proportions, or at least an after market replacement.

service pusher 086ST0022 is for the press in Pushers for the 105.012.

Oh that’s awesome. Is there anybody on the forum who can get these 086ST0022 service pushers from Omega? I would definitely like to pick up a set for my 105.012

I would like to publicly say thank you to @ZWD for being so helpful in helping me identify my current pushers as push-in type over private messaging!
Some interesting things that came out the conversation for others to reference, in case they are wondering the same thing about their own Speedmaster pushers:
  • If the pushers turn freely they are likely push-in type
  • seeing a screw slot on the pusher tube does not mean they're screw in type - these are in fact present on push-in type
