Retirement gift

Hi and thanks for allowing me to join your forums, as a noob ( another one!) I would appreciate some guidance in buying a nice vintage Seamaster as a retirement gift to myself.
I would like something from the early sixties and i’ve seen this one advertised. It looks nice to me and it’s in my price range but what would I know?
No info about service history, band is not original but apparently the clasp is, thanks for any help.

Might be a good idea to let us know where you are buying it from and what price is it selling for and in what currency.

It’s not really the price that bothers me as it’s similar to a bunch of others i’ve seen recently moreso the originality of it, refinished face, correct crown etc. Does it look right for a 1961ish seamaster?

Obviously we don’t know the price so can’t comment on whether it’s good value but it seems to be a very nice, original example with a clean dial and sharp case.

+1 you will need a new strap sized to the watch and buckle. That is not.

It looks good - sharp case and the dial looks original and in good condition. The band is horrible, but easily replaced. You are aware that the case diameter is likely 34mm? If you have large wrists it may look small on you.

It will work out to about €800 including shipping to Aus.

Yeah, the band is horrible but the bonus is having the omega clasp which most for sale seem not too. The case size should be fine, It’s the style of the time and that’s what I like.

The watch looks good. 👍

The buckle may be legit, we would need better photos of the whole thing from both sides to be certain.

Love the hands, the colour of the lume dots, the case-back and the coat-hanger. This watch will always be nice - congrats!
I modded the picture a bit:

Here is a no date cousin 14700. Yours has nice sharp caselines looks great congrats.
And if you can show closeup photo of back of buckle there may be markings to confirm original.

Very nice watch, it looks good on the wrist as well, not too small.
I’ve bought the watch so I’m waiting now for delivery in about ten days, I’ll post a couple of photos when i get it! Can’t wait.

Love the alpha hands! Cool lugs! If the buckle is original you may have to have a custom strap made to fit the lug with and buckle size.

I briefly owned and then sold a 2846.

My watch arrived yesterday! As nice as it looked in the photos thank goodness. Fits the wrist as well. Happy with the size.
Pic of the back of the clasp for anyone interested. Fake or not?

Excellent strap choice… I’m gonna go a thumbs up on the pin buckle.
