Hello everyone, I live in Portugal and this is my first post in this forum and I would like to introduce myself and thanks to allowing me to join group of Omega owners when I want recover a vintage Omega watch, my grandfather's heritage, counting on your invaluable help and experience.

this watch was bought by my grandfather between the 50's 60's:

I could not find information about this Omega caliber 608 (made me think I was reading the number upside down and it would be 809 ...)

Unfortunately he has passed away so the only thing I have left of him are the good memories and this icon that I always remember seeing on his wrist.

I am an engineer in computer science and electronics technician and have always liked to repair things by my hands, the satisfaction of doing it is priceless, so try to repair it for myself.

I noticed that one extreme of the balance staf is broken:

I would like your help in understanding where the replacement part could be purchased in Europe, or if possible the complete balance movement since I do not see that it is simple just replace the staff and put back the spring and the balance without being an expert in watchmaking.

The crystal has also known better days, but without knowing the original references to get a replacement part, I do not know how easy it would be to replace it:

I think the elastic watch bracelet is not the original one since it says "elfit". Maybe it could deserve a new one: 20181110_111215.jpg

I hope you have enjoyed seeing the photos and that can give me an orientation for your restoration.
What puzzles me is that I have not found Omega documentation or listing that refers to this calm 608 ... if anyone can clarify I am grateful.

    Greetings from Oporto, Portugal

Hi Tdn-dk, can explain me a bit more based on why you said this is fake? Counterfeit watches in the 50's (because I know was bought in these years) were a reality?

    Sure

Omega never made a cal. 608, you can se the model line here (600, 601, 602, 610, 611 and 613):

Look at this cal. 600 and se how different it is:

Omega stamped their watches inside in the caseback, not outside

    The logo is off:

Well, thank you all for clarifying me on this subject that I sincerely did not know.

Nothing changes my feeling about this watch, it could be a solar clock that just like the affection that I have and the desire to hear your heartbeat again exceeds being fake or no.
If someone recommended me where I can buy the needed to get back to work I am grateful.

Are there any markings on the plate beneath the balance bridge?
