Hey all. Posted on here a while ago about my omega Seamaster cosmic 2000 in gold. I want to get it refinished, as it has been polished to a shiny gold (should be a brushed finish). The watch was my grandfathers, and unfortunately in my time had this happen.

I would like to restore it and the bracelet (non omega) back to a good level, but I don't want to get it plated as it will wear off. I really want something like at least 200-250 micron thickness (it was nearly 45 years old and had no wear after being used daily).

I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I have no clue if anyone does this type of gold work in my area, but I want to get it looking really nice. It deserves it as I was very close with grandfather. I understand everyone's concern with a crap job and gold plating (I will not get it plated, it'll look garbage.) And won't last. I will only do it if I can get it done properly.

I've put some photos of it and a stock photo of the finish it should have. Appreciate any input, thanks again! 20190425_184424.jpg 96937a57cd9202ce8bed4a2a28096163.jpg 20190226_114204.jpg

For what it is worth, I like it as it is.

I have my eye on an old Bulova watch that is in great shape (and only $50 CDN), except the gold plate is worn through. I started looking just this morning to see if anyone can do a quality re-plate (Vancouver BC) that would open up the opportunity to rescue watches from being turned into cufflinks on Etsy. Anyone know what the ballpark cost and worthwhileness would be?

Is the watch gold electro plated, rolled gold plate, gold filled, CVD, or PVD? The only type of finish that could be renewed, is gold electro plate. And in my experience, this seldom proves satisfactory. As to attempting to re-plate over any of the other finishes? Just as unsatisfactory. If you check around and find a good solution for re-plating old worn cases, with a lasting finish, of good colour, please come back and let us know what you found.

I had really good luck with Replatit in Canada. I had seen them recommended in several NAWCC posts. http://www.replateit.com/
The price was reasonable and i am pretty happy with the outcome. I had hands, case, bezel, and the stainless back redone for well under a $100.00 They can take a while and had my watch for a couple of months, but as the NAWCC posts said, it was worth the wait. Standard is 40 microns 14k, but you can pay them to apply multiple coats. Not sure how it would work with gold filled. They respond quickly to emails and would be able to tell you.

Looks great there! I have been looking at RePlateIt's website, theres a picture of an omega which had been gold plated to 20micron from factory, rebrushed as it was shiny gold like mine. It was a gorgeous brushed colour after that. I have read on their site also that they will plate over existing gold which is very enticing to me, as my watch still has a huge amount of plating on it. Apparently takes about 90 days for that process, but going off these images below, it looks worth it. 422bd3ef7f8289e3571624695a53d34b.jpg a58836a406f0581aeb7c7e909cb88c02.jpg
