Has anyone researched the resale value of their Omega's?

Over the recent two months I discovered the Seamaster 2254 retained an average value of 70%. My research was conducted using eBay and in one auction the sale price was about $2,800; which is about 11% more than what I originally paid for mine!

I have always figured a watch retaining 50% of its value was OK. But anything higher is excellent.

Strange that the 2254 made such a surge in the last year, isn't it? Just goes to show you can never tell what's going to catch fire and what's going to fizzle out.

These things are interesting for a few reasons, they're closer to the SM300 than any of the other SMPs for one thing, they were never made for that long, and lastly, when the PO came out, these still represented an era of Omega sports divers that the PO didn't quite replicate

And it has arguably the best lume on the market

To use Hitler's phrase uttered when he found he was banned from WUS it has a "shit-ton of lume".

But how long does it keep that bright before it drops to 50%?

To be honest, I am glad the production run for the 2254 was less than that of the 2531.80. I just perused eBay to see what the 2531.80 was fetching. Most are listed as Buy It Now OBO sales and a few of the sellers are asking too much in my opinion. The average price of those is $1,998.38 out of 13 listings. Only one is listed as an auction and the starting price is $2,565.49 with six days left and no bidders. That is way too high a starting price for a 2531.80.

When I bought mine, it came with an extra Non-AC dial and PO second hand. I bought it from the Netherlands and when it arrived it was absolutely in perfect condition, not one scratch even on the bracelet. Only problem was it wasn't running because the seller did an awful job packing it and it slammed around the box it came in. I took it to my watchmaker and he said it needed a new balance staff. So, while he had the watch open, I asked if he could swap out the dial and second hand and service it since it was from 2009. He did it all for what I thought was a great price and it is now running like a champ.
