    Thanks in advance.

I’m looking to buy my first vintage Seamaster.

I’d like a 1960s model with no date, and Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, 12. I’m flexible on gold vs stainless. I’d like to spend between $400 - 800 for an “honest” original example. I will wear it to work sometimes.

What ref number or numbers may fit this bill?

Thanks in advance for the knowledge I’ve learned on the forum. This is my first post.

    Jack

Some of the Seamaster De Villes (166.020) came with Arabic and no date. Very nice but few and far between. Also try 135.011 Seamaster 600. If you go back into the 50’s you also have the 2577. I am sure there are many other references that people can add.

Is it safe to assume an inscription on the case back hurts ease of resale? Unless perhaps it’s John Wayne or JFK...

It probably means you are buying it for less too, so I'd imagine it evens out when you go to sell it...

I just wanted to make sure the community didn’t feel that it’s a non-starter like refinished dials. I think I’ll try to avoid inscription unless I’m in love with the watch.

I am sure everyone will have a different opinion about inscriptions. Personally I would avoid as I like things being as original as possible. I am sure over time it would eat away at me and I would end up selling on. On the plus side because they are presentation watches a lot of them don’t tend to get worn so they can be found in good condition.
It’s up to you really to decide how you would feel wearing a watch with someone else’s name on the back.
Good luck with your hunt whatever you decide.

I personally don't mind inscriptions as long as it doesn't obscure/interfere with original caseback patterns/prints. I think it can add a bit of story to the watch.

Case ref. 14765 sometimes has this dial variant. The movement can be either 552 or 550. I had a 552 early on in my Omega collecting days but sold it on before I knew what I was doing. Here's the seller's original photo - again, I didn't know enough then to keep good pics of everything. It came minus crown which I had put on.
