Hi, here is a nice little T17 I received on Saturday :

    It is a CK891, from around 1936.

Well, the dial is not in the best condition, I must admit :

This purchase was a kind of a bet, but after some gentle cleaning (removing of the old tarnished varnish and application of a new one), it looked much better :

Finally, after some repair on the caliber (broken mainspring, broken balance...), I find that this watch looks quite nice (I just need to have a new glass fit on it) :

CK 891 was first produced with a 20F Inside (here in a 1934 German catalog) :

and was later produced with a T17 Inside (here in a 1937 catalog :

Wow great job, glad it worked out for you.
    Looks great.
What method did you use to removed the old varnish?

It cleaned up beautifully but still retained so much character, very very nice.

    I've got a 20f that needs something,
It has the potential to join the ranks of these beauties! I'm just not sure how to proceed.

    Damn smokers/sunlight!

I need to brighten this nicotine aged beauty.
I love the history, but the age doesn't sit well with this breguet bedazzled tank.
I want to parade her, but she is small and needs to see the light.

    Cheers, Achim!

we can clean up your dial to the unstained condition. if you want that, just send over the dial and hands and 2 weeks later it is on its way back to you. just pay for both shipments. the rest is on me. kind regards. achim

Achim, how can you do this?
You are a good friend but you will go broke if you keep this up.
    Is this a cleaning ?

As this old girl sits in my box unloved, I have little to lose but feel sad that you have little to gain.
I wish that we both would reap great rewards!

It's up to you to choose, but I would keep it untouched. I tend to clean dials only when they are damaged, like the one I showef. Otherwise there is always a significant risk that a cleaning damages it instead of improving it.

Then I agree with you my friend, when there is no risk of damaging the dial, it is worth doing it. Unfortunately for me, I don't master the technique enough and I have damaged too many dials so I reserve this to the ones I find definitively unacceptable as they are.
    kind regards,
    Yann
