A fairly boring WTB this one - I am simply looking for some Renata 354 or similar from Varta etc. to some of my quartz Certinas.

Fingers crossed!

The attached is the only list I’ve seen that shows that cell.

https://www.batteriesinaflash.com/watch-battery-cross-reference

This list shows the cell as measuring 11.6 mm diameter, and 4.2 mm thick. The Renata 386 which I believe should be easy to find, measures the same. Check your 354 cell to confirm the measurements, and compare to the 386 on this list. That reference shows lots of cells from other makers that measure the same as the 386. Hope this helps.

354 was a mercury cell 1.35 volts and is no longer available.
As @Canuck noted, a 386/SR43W is a 1.55 volt high drain replacement.
Low drain replacement is a 301/SR43SW.

I would not use Renata batteries if I had a choice, Maxell or Seiko would be my preference.

Isn't Renata owned by Swatch Group?

Might it be possible you can use these? https://www.ebay.com/itm/124824452614

Yes, I know, not in US, but I should imagine they are available elsewhere?

Yes, but I've still had leaking Renata batteries.

They are to adapt 357s in place of the old 355s, not needed as the suggested replacements are identical in size to a 354.

If the Certinas used an used an 11.6 mm diameter cell, and if a 386 was used in its place (same diameter), these adaptors wouldn”t help. They are used when adapting a cell of smaller diameter, for use in a watch that needs a larger diameter cell (i. e. The Accutron model 214. These adaptors would work for 214s).

+1

When I bought my 50 year old cal 1250, it was fitted with a new Renata and the timing was all over the place.

Another owner posted his on OF and pm'd me to say he bought eBay batteries.

I bought these and the watch now keeps perfect time

Alkaline batteries in a hummer? How long do they last?

I use 80ma silver oxide SR1136SW in my hummers and get about a year and have no problems with timekeeping.

Not long, but they work.

I’ll try your recommendation

Thanks for all the help - I resolved the issue by, you know, actually opening the watches...

Interestingly, none of the two had 354s or equivalents in them, but instead a 344 (the one watch I knew was running prior to the battery going dead) and a Duracell 43 (the watch was bought as a non-runner due to dead battery, but the seller wasn't sure of anything about it...).

As you can see they are fairly different in size.

As coincidence would have it, I had two 344s available - the only watch batteries I had lying around, funnily enough - and I gave it a go. Hey presto, both watches are now running 😁

Anyway, isn’t it great when a plan comes together.

I’d be interested in seeing what movement is used in these watches.

It's called 29-252, which is a Certina-branded ESA 9181.

Thanks for that. I’ve never seen one of those movements before. Glad to hear you’ve found cells that work.
