Roger Chaffee, Gus Grissom, and Ed White perished 40 years ago today on 27th January 2017. I know we have a lot of Space historians here, you might like to know NASA have just opened a tribute to these pioneers the Apollo 1 crew at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. I teach astronomy here in Orlando and we are currently covering the history of space flight. The students are always amazed at how we were able to do the things we have done with space travel. I reminded them today that it wouldn't have been possible without the brave men (Mercury 7 and the Apollo astronauts) that were willing to risk it all. Fortunately, it did not deter the American spirit and we pressed on to the moon.
