Similar question to above - if the watch box arrived empty, or, really, if there was any dispute, how do eBay and PayPal not protect the buyer? I was under the impression that eBay has a very strong money back guarantee if the item is not as described. Especially, in the case of an empty box arriving.

Isn't this why eBay (or PayPal?) requires a seller to ship via an insured, trackable carrier; otherwise an empty box or other issue of non-delivery would be at the seller's own risk?

I've been fortunate not to have had an issue such as this before, but my eBay and PayPal transactions have been at most in the thousands of dollars ranges, and with whom I thought (based on feedback alone!) were established, trusted sellers.

It seems there's a lot more danger out there than meets the eye. But my original question still stands - aren't the ebay and/or PayPal guarantees pretty straightforward? And, pretty aligned to favor the seller?

I think there is a limit they dont tell people about or that the seller requested payment via wire using the account's reputation and lured a few buyers (albeit some big amounts)

The maximum per paypal transaction is supposedly $10,000... which wouldn't be hard to get around with multiple payments. That would make ebay checkout a bit difficult to complete though, since a single payment wouldn't be enough. If I were the buyer in such a situation--and saw those negatives before the package arrived, I would refuse delivery! Both paypal/ebay tell you not to refuse delivery (as it breaks the terms of their buyer protection?), but you can't take a chance with a dollar amount that high. There's absolutely no way to lose a credit card chargeback if they can't prove a successful delivery.

If I was willing to spend £20k on an eBay transaction I'd take a day off work and fly somewhere to pick it up. Do a wife transfer once you've checked it out.

But then again I couldn't afford to lose £20k so I guess it's all relative

I bought this watch from a seller in Amman Jordan. The seller also sold Iraqi Dinars. The background for the photos is the same. I was quite pleased.
Edit: I just went over my past purchases and it was from him. It was a flawless transaction

If you look at the feedback that this seller has received, it is all good except for the 2 recent negatives. It is possible that the buyers are the scammers.
