Hi members, I'm new to the forum. I've been an Omega-phile ever since my father gave me his Seamaster. He'd bought it in Germany the year I was born, while he was stationed there in the army. Love often goes hand in hand with stupidity and that was my case. Just a year after I got it I was diving from some cliffs near our town and didn't take off the watch. That was the end of my Seamaster. Now, I think I've found a great opportunity to rekindle the love for the beautiful, masculine and elegant timepiece I was given. I've seen this vintage Omega timepiece in a shop specializing in philately and collectible coins. I've asked my own questions and done some research, and this is what I've found out, or think I know: -Engravings on inside of caseback: OMEGA WATCH Co, H-6569, D10677, J 14K -Engravings on movement: OMEGA WATCH OF SWISS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, 510... -Omega 17-jewel winding movement Cal. #510 -32 mm case (not including crown & logs). 40 mm from ends of two lugs to ends of others. 9 mm thick. Inside lug width is 17 mm -Case and caseback are solid 14K gold -Integral, solid 14 K gold bracelet hallmarked 14 KT on clasp -Hour markers & hands are gold -Off white, almost pearl-like, dial -Face includes second hand in bottom center region -Crystal slightly scratched -Last serviced January 2017 From what I've seen on-line, I'm guessing it's from the 1960s. I'm considering purchasing the watch. I'd like help identifying the model and approximate date and, if possible, the location of production (I've been told that because it's 14 K gold and not 18 K, it was likely produced outside of Europe--in the USA for example--as those in Europe they were typically made in 18 K). I'd also like to know it's value based on this information and the photos. Thanks in advance. http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/58950502078ea/_DSC0018.JPG http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5895051047d9d/_DSC0015.JPG
You can estimate the year of production using the serial number on your watch movement and a table such as this one (commonly found on the interwebs):
You are correct, it isn't Swiss made. We would need clearer photos of the inside of the caseback. The markings there would tell us. I think it is American made, but clearer photos would clarify
The J shows it was a case made by Jonell watch company. Some info here on cal 560 Omegas imported by Jonel http://www.watchprosite.com/page-wf.forumpost/fi-677/ti-573541/pi-3558246/
Thanks. I'll have to try and get better photos of the movement to find out the serial number. I assume it's a number with 7-8 digits as in the examples, with no letters or other characters.
Is this a photo of the watch you're considering buying? If so, it looks like the dial has been refinished, which collectors consider a total no no except in rare specific cases-- and so you should steer clear. Is this the exact same watch as the one you lost? There will be other, and better 1960s gold dress seamasters to be found. Best regards, S
