I've got a Speedy FOIS that I've enjoyed for some time now, and have considered swapping out the alpha hands for baton style to match a 105.003, my favorite Speedmaster ref. I just wanted to crowd source the forum's opinion on mods and non-original parts on their watches. Part of me wants to breathe new life into the watch, and part of me thinks it's idiotic to buy second market parts for a luxury good. I'll obviously be keeping the original hands in the event of a resell, but this is also a watch I never plan on selling.

The watch is still under warranty, so I may wait a few more months and then have the hands replaced & movement regulated by my watchmaker.

    Thanks

Your watch Go Crazy and mod it how you like.

As you said keep the parts and all can be undone when you want.

Generally on modern pieces, most people "feel go have fun!"

Your proposal is a good one.

If you keep the original parts and nothing gets damaged in the process, seems like a good way to go. If you do decide to sell, swap it back if it makes a big difference to the buyer.

During my tenure on that forum, I found most of the participants to be anal retentive about their cars. If the modification didn't come from the factory in Zuffenhausen, it was unworthy and looked down upon like a red-headed stepchild. Me, coming from a US muscle car background found this approach to be asinine. Over on the Corvette Forum, you want better exhaust, headers, bigger wheels/tires, nitrous injection, etc., etc, etc., the approach is: It's your car and your money, so have at it. By the way, it'll probably void your warranty.

Bottom line for me is that I sold the P-car and kept the Vette. There's no substitute for cubic inches...

Can't find a pic of my current ride. This one is gone, but not forgotten.

Historically about 1/4 of all Porsche production comes to Sourhern California. Everyone tweaks them here. Of course in Germany with TUV it's a bit different.

    It's your watch, DO IT!
Swap the original hands back if you ever tire of the mod or when you decide to move the FOIS.
Put up some pictures of the modded watch please.
