Ref 26.5 hiding in plain sight

So I got this case a few month back hoping one of my houseless movements might find a home.

On investigation it was too small for the 550 movements. So I did some searching through my documentation.

A query here found the answer. When I looked at the list of movements I found I did have a 26.5 watch already.

No one likes the dial on it. The consensus is that it is a repaint. Still the lines on it are clean and there is a lot of character to it. Looks like it is printed on paper, but that is just the patena. What really jump out though are those radioactive hands. The numbers though have lost all their phosphor as they do not light up too well.

Even as a repaint, someone took some really quality time with this dial to get everything just right. If I could repaint this well, then I would have completed a goal from decades past.

Eventually I will remake the strap. I think there is a few dozen or more watches in the queue before I get to this one. I also find it interesting the tag with the case number and movement on it. The gold plating is really discolored as well.

Now I need to source a new movement for the spare case, which is also missing a bezel. I noticed since these date to the WWII time frame, there seems to be a premium for totally trashed movements with bogus dials.

This one cracks me up, Not in the US so there is no reason to even think about it. Most of this stuff in not in the US. Or turns up in cycles when the estate sellers find it. So it is more of chance and luck with a lot of patience to wait decades till it shows up.
