Up for sale is this fantastic double reference 2494-4/2657 Omega Seamaster. This classic steel Seamaster features a bumper automatic caliber 342 movement in ultra-desirable Jumbo 36mm case and handsome original dial with Arabic numerals at "12," “3,” “6” and "9." This stunning watch dates to circa 1950 and the beautifully proportioned all-stainless steel HF-made water resistant case is nice and fat with a sharp bezel step. The warm, lightly gold-toned dial with engine turned sub-seconds features its original printing and lume. This early 1950s Jumbo Seamaster is in Excellent overall vintage condition and has a classically elegant mid-century look. The larger case wears beautifully on the wrist, as well, having a perfectly “modern” size despite being over 60-years old.

The asking price for this classic Omega Seamaster Jumbo is now REDUCED to $1550 USD OBRO, which includes fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire is always appreciated but Paypal is also OK on this watch with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Other payment options upon application. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS.

CASE & BACK: This beautifully proportioned oversized gent's dress watch measures 36mm wide not including crown by 46mm long to the end of the lugs and about 11mm to the top of the crystal. The all-stainless steel 2-piece screwed case was manufactured by Huguenin Freres and features a subtle stepped bezel and elegant long, downward turned lugs. The case has light marks and perhaps based on the lug edges (but not on the undistorted lug holes or the very crisp bezel line) appears as though it could have been either very lightly polished or merely softened from the years — Excellent vintage condition regardless. The notched caseback is likewise Excellent with plenty of hairlines bit no severe tool marks. The inner case has negligible corrosion and all Omega nomenclature of the period is present, including the correct double 2494-4/2657 reference number and the HF case-makers signature. As you can see by the comparison pic with a previous Seamaster of mine this Jumbo is truly that — a wonderfully oversized Omega that stands out from the crowd!

DIAL & HANDS: Lovely original dial with applied yellow gold faceted dagger and quarter Arabic numeral markers and Omega logo has acquired a very attractive warm patina that changes from silver to light champagne depending in the light. Although there is the subtle light spotting that one commonly finds on dials of this era and a couple of other light age spots, as well as a few tiny fibers that have found their way under the crystal, all original factory printing is crisp and legible. Not perfect but Excellent unrestored vintage condition on this elegant Omega dial. The original radium luminous dots at the scalloped edge of the dagger markers have darkened considerably but are still present. Original long Alpha-style gold hour and minute hands show just a bit of age/light corrosion and their patinated original luminous fill is also present — likewise Excellent condition. The sub seconds hand is a little stubby and not quite the usual baton style for this model within its perfectly placed engine turned sub-register so could well have been replaced at some point. On the wrist, this is a mega-charming classic 50s Seamaster layout with unmistakable vintage appeal made all the more striking by the large face.

MOVEMENT: Beautiful copper colored Omega cal. 342 17-jewel "bumper" partial-rotor automatic movement with shock protection. The 12 million movement serial number dates to circa 1950 according to Omega's tables. While the service history is unknown I did buy this watch from a watchmaker and it is keeping very good time with strong power reserve. This is guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipping.

CROWN: Omega-signed 4-notch steel crown shows aging commensurate with the case and so could well be original — Excellent condition. The crown pushes in tightly to the case, winds the movement and pulls out to the non-hack time setting position exactly as it should.

CRYSTAL: Unsigned domed acrylic crystal with silver tension ring. Hard to say if it is original to the watch or not as I don’t believe they were signed this far back. But either way it is in Excellent+ condition with only very minor marks and no chips, cracks or crazing.

BAND: This great Omega comes on a high quality and lightly used long padded cognac leather strap with white stitching in Excellent condition with generic steel buckle. This watch takes 18mm straps.

As a matter if policy I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This classic vintage Omega Seamaster is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

    Thanks for looking,
    T.
