·Selling a few watches that don’t get worn anymore.
Up for sale is my vintage 176.007 cal. 1040 Seamaster. Watch is in very good vintage condition. Case shows wear and has some nicks and scratches. Asking $2,100 USD. (was $2,250) (Now sold)
Learn more about ref. 176.007 here.
Description
Case appears to have been lightly polished in the past but the transitions from brushed top to polished sides remain straight.
Caseback has some gouges from opening and strap changes.
White tachymetre bezel is in excellent condition, I believe it is original.
Original crown and pushers.
Hands are original but have been poorly touched up. While being serviced in 2018, the watchmaker decided to put bright minty green lume on the hour and minute hands. 🤦The hands were fine before. I sent it back and they darkened the lume. Believe me, the current bad black paint job is better than what they originally did, but certainly worse than before I took it in for service.🙁
Dial is an A1 variant with OSA text order (OMEGA Seamaster AUTOMATIC), satin blue in excellent condition. I believe it to be original. It has lost some of the “shimmer” that the satin finish originally had, but the paint and lacquer are still intact, as are the tritium lume dots outside the hour markers. No signs of water damage. There appears to be a small speck of dust on the dial near the 4:00 marker (see image). Other imperfections shown in photos all appear to be shadows from scratches in the crystal or dust on the crystal I failed to wipe away.
Crystal has some scratches but is in otherwise good shape. The Omega logo is visible. The profile of the crystal is not fully “rounded”, which can be an indicator of a service part. If so it has been with the watch for many years.
Bracelet is a variant of the 1170, but unmarked. Excellent condition. Endlinks are 120s, very hard to find. These are correct for ref. 176.007 and are “plain” – meaning they don’t have lines that match the center link pattern of the bracelet.
Movement is clean and sets correctly and the chronograph starts, stops, and resets as it should. Movement received a full service in June of 2018. I have only worn it once or twice since it came back from service, and not at all in over a year. Comes with an Extract of the Archives dating the watch to May 1976 and delivered to France.
Issues
• The hands were sloppily touched up by an overzealous watchmaker
• There are scratches and dings on the case, and evidence of previous polishing
• Small speck of dust on the dial near the 4:00 marker
Positives
• Attractive and mostly original (possibly a replacement crystal) - a correct and wearable example
• Serviced in 2018
• Comes with extract
• Very hard to find endlinks
Provenance
Well the extract tells me the watch was assembled in 1976 and delivered to France. Then I bought it from a pawn shop outside Chicago, IL USA in December 2014. I don’t know anything about the 38 years in between. The bracelet came with the watch, I’ve cared for it since then, and had it serviced in 2018.
Comes with
Watch, bracelet, Extract
Photos
My photos were taken October 13, 2020 in natural sunlight with an Iphone. No filters or editing other than rotating the images. PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AS THEY ARE PART OF THE ITEM DESCRIPTION.
Price
Asking $2,100 USD (reduced from $2,250) (Now sold) which includes domestic US shipping. NO TRADES PLEASE. Please contact me via pm with questions or offers.
Payment
Wire, cash (watch and I are in the Chicago area), Venmo. Paypal if you have references.
Buyer
I prefer selling domestically to keep things simple. I will sell internationally on a case by case basis (in other words, buyer needs solid recent references and must accept full customs declaration and cover extra shipping cost). Buyer must have solid references.
Returns
No returns unless watch is grossly misrepresented. Selling as-is with no warranty. I make no promises as to water-resistance, expose it to water at your own risk.
