    Hi everyone,
Sellers of late have been trying to milk the Longines cow by trying to price Record watches from the 1960s-1970s as "Longines".
Seems this is another example, ambitiously priced at £750 BIN or offer.

On this particular example I find the Longines hour glass feels odd, similar to 1950s redials.... notice there is no movement picture, and the full caseback is nowhere to be seen - perhaps to hide there's nothing Longines about this watch?
Longines did acquire Record after WWII - and Record watches were good quality watches in the 1940s.

But 1970s Record watches are not Longines movements, and not Longines watches.

Correction: Longines acquired Record in 1961, and the latter made some very good quality watches in the '50s as well.

    Agreed!

Tony, I'll grant you my wording was fuzzy, but 1961 is indeed "after WWII".
Thank you for the clarification though, and the added info on 1950s Record watches.

Hmm, @Radiumpassion interesting, you're reminding me I've seen a couple of those too and the Longines logo never struck me as bad before.
Perhaps it's just that this latest example is poorly executed.
I'll correct the initial post accordingly.

Here's another one though. Maybe the quality of the longines logo print is uneven on those after all...

I have seen some of the blue ones signed as Record, and some signed as Longines - Record.

There were some lady watches with the dual brand, also

And there was a Record mystery dial watch called Discovery, that to all intents was a Longines Comet, poorly disguised

Back then, they needed to squeeze the last penny, as it seems.

Just a little too convenient that the original dials lend themselves to be, I believe falsely co-branded like this. If there's money to be made someone will think of a way.

Why would Longines want to co-brand itself downward with it's lesser brand?

I think that you are mistaken. Longines did co-brand with Record, at least for a brief period. That's not to say that there aren't fakes out there, but there are more than a few examples, and I'm sure that most are genuine.
