If I thought I could find a second hand I would buy it in a heartbeat! it is a very rare model of the Captain with very very few produced.

Here's something you don't see on eBay every day.

Seller makes a lot of disclaimers about this possibly being a Franken. There are certainly parts that don't match up here.

16 bidders, certainly interesting price

Even if couple of hands are false, it's good price 😀

Congrats^^^!!! I was watching and I think you scored big time! I have one so like to keep up w the market...
I hope this does not create a stir, but having the auction end so early in the morning I thought would create a distinct advantage for bidders wise enough to set an alarm clock reminder 😀
Enjoy your new to you a386!

A385
Seems legit to me, although some people know better.
Seller mentawatches has so-so reputation.

Decent overall, and I particularly like both the case and the dial. But the lume is totally mismatched between hands and dial, too much to be normal effects of aging. And it's quite obvious that the lume in the sweep hand isn't much newer. Either a replacement hand or re-lumed.

Lume on dial looks a little funky and wrong crown but I bet it still goes over $5.5K!

You may have a calling as a professional appraiser ... $5,350. 👍

I think the chrono sweep seconds hand is likely one of those NOS replacements (I put one into an A385 I used to have). I've seen a lot of these with similar mismatch between the lume on the dial and hands. I think a batch or two of the dials had the lume uniformly age over the decades to a gray matching the dial, while some still match the hands, probably fifty-fifty from the ones I've seen.

And I will admit, that I was the high bidder. I realize that 5 years ago this would have seemed an excessive price, but I think these have certainly gone up in value, certainly those which are essentially unpolished and with the bracelet. I think the lume is original, just aged on the dial like I said above. Under halogen light all glow brightly and fade equally quickly.

Very good news for you, and interesting to hear. I had suspected, like you, that the sweep hand was a replacement, like many that I see. The dial is lovely and the case is in really rare condition. The sweep hand is certainly correct in shape/length, as you can see by comparing with mine, which has hands that are quite likely original. Also interesting to see the different color tones of the dials.
