I like this first generation 3019 PHC - a Datron - better, though it's got the 17J engine:

1971-72 Datron Pilot

And hey, if you want to upgrade it, all you need is this:

14J Upgrade

You see what evil lurks in the hearts of men - alas, this quick little upgrade takes place all too often, methinks!

very unrealistic price for a watch in this condition. You could get a very fine one for less.

I agree. The key is always the movement. This one is from late in the production (= least desirable version, save only the non-certified ones from the same era) and in rough shape - check out the regulator.

At least you can still buy the minute recorder jumper. That is one hell of a bodge - I bet that watchmaker is proud of himself.

here's that cal. 146 chronograph with the paperclip repair of the minute recorder jumper, only this time, the seller is smart enough not to show movement pics

Didn't see this one go - http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-Z...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Incorrect crown and no bracelet, $3999

I didn't see it either. Good deal, despite minor shortcomings you mention, factory replacement hands and tastefully relumed hour markers.
Interesting case number for a late-production A386: 230E879... between the known ranges of 922Dxxx-923Dxxx and 231Exxx-233Exxx. LouS take note. 馃槈

Minor indeed, I point them out purely in reference to price rather than a criticism. The hands looked OK to me, at least the main hands - is there a characteristic of replacement hands I've missed? The lume appears consistent, as you say.

Well minor points are the fun part. We're here for the quibbling. 馃榾

The subdial hands have pointy ends... like mine. I prefer this design, but original hands have squared ends. I think the hour, minute and chrono sweep second paddle hands are replacements because... the subdial hands have pointy ends. 馃槈. And because they look so good. Not sure how else to tell with those.
