A tangent- lovely sterling ladies lever set pocket watch. Brand is unknown but that bridge looks mighty familiar (I have a Longines trench watch that looks like that...not saying it's a Longines...but it looks similar). Enraving is sharp, lovely hands and dial and seller says working. Put this on a chunky long Sterling chain and give it as a gift to the lady in your life.

That’s a pleasant looking dial. Get one of these smaller ladies pocket watches in an open face design (not a hunter case) and mount it on a wrist band. You can have something quite fun for little money

For clarity, something like this circa 20’s model

I've often thought if these sellers used their powers for good and not evil.....
One of the most accurate watches I own is a faux Fortis from India.
When I first got it it gained one second every five days. After switching out the bands it suddenly began losing a couple of seconds per day. I recently opened up the case back and found the most gnarly looking movement I've ever seen, crudely stamped bridges and all, looked like it was made in a blacksmiths shop. But only the slightest nudge on the regulator returned it to its near perfect timing. I can wear it for months at a time without having to touch the crown other than to wind it.
If it locked up tomorrow I'd have already gotten my money's worth from it several times over.
It would be nice if the Indian Government reopened the HMT factory. There would be no shortage of prospective craftsmen.

Factory error in printing “17 jewels”, or some one was able to redial on that textured surface?

Good spot. Printing in general does look a little thick, but trying to print on that dial surface would be a nightmare anyway.

Have done this a few times- I actually always check the country and sellers history (sold items, country, feedback etc) before i even think about bidding (or even listing them here- many I won't post here if they are questionable).
That said, I have taken a gamble on a few from South America and the east based on positive feedback and seller history and have gotten them on the cheap when others have been hesitant to jump. eBay buyer protection is always reassuring. But buying a fake is on you- need to do your research.

Asking price of $350 and a Make Offer option. The water damage on the lower right side of the dial is obviously an issue, and there is also a case-back engraving. But if someone is looking for an entry-level collectible, this could be acceptable at the right price. Most likely, it will face up pretty well to the naked eye.

And with a cryptic caseback too

it’s annoying that so many have “not specified” case material.
If you care to put in the time, the best deals on eBay are among watches which aren't classified or which are misclassified, so searching for only "not specified" and reading caseback photos is the bargain hunter's tactic.

28mm so for the ladies or small wristed:
Very fancy looking Helbros with sub- second, crazy lugs, sector dial and bejeweled 3/9/12 Plating shows wear, dial has some speckling, seller says diamonds are real which I highly doubt- but whatever for the price. This would be an interesting piece on the right arm.

Elgin Sportsman- nice looking dial that's barely visible with the crystal and awful pics- but crystal should wet sand out. Some of these were stainless, some were plated- this looks stainless but I can't tell. But for the money...and make offer.

Thx JW. I might as well do something useful around here 😗. Winter is coming, so a project would be good. I am also working on a "adventures in buying a Canadian dialed railroad pocket watch". Though that might be a while in coming, pausing acquisitions for a bit.
Dave, may I suggest you could use this as the start of a Benrus resource? I am building it up but am distracted by other makes...and others have far greater knowledge than me. I just upload the ones that I add to my own collection....!

Its super easy to use, can upload any pics without having to resize and create as many pages as you need. Just open an account....

Most people believe that a stone that cuts glass must be a real diamond, but fact is most artificial diamonds will cut glass.
Still with all the fine engraving on that little Helbros I would not be surprised if those stones were real.
Certainly a beautiful watch, but too fancy for me to wear even if it were 35mm or larger.
A great gift for a significant other. Might break down resistance to you following your hobby. Tell her it cost $500-$1000 and you traded three of your favorite watches for it.

I often gift watches to my lady that I find awesome but are just too small for me. Most of the time it's met with excitement, and sometimes.....oh, this is....different.

And that reminds me of when I got a great little Enicar (around 31mm) and as I presented it to her she pointed at the Airking on my wrist and said, what about that one....yeah.
