This one that @Dan S first showed has two and a half hours left and is going for more than I thought it would. It looks so good though, so I鈥檓 not surprised.

What is the significance of this brand and watch?

This thread can be dangerous to the novice collector but on the flip side, it can be a learning experience as well. I never knew so many watchmakers existed. And so it begins.

What a fun watch 馃槑

I am very skeptical. I am not an expert, but it looks like a relumed Ord. Dept. watch in an aftermarket case. I could be wrong, but I spent two years searching and researching A-11's and there is a lot of shenanigans with those. This is a related, but less common watch. So I would be extra careful, especially at this price.

See, my previous post. Do an eBay search on USN Buships and you will see many aftermath canteen cases, which I think this probably is. I would look in the What Military RUW thread here and the Military Watch Forums to learn how to identify an authentic example.

These canteen watches have been cobbled and faked for some time. There seems to be an endless supply of "NOS" cases out there- which I find dubious. There are some real ones about, but you really need to know exactly what you are looking at.

It's one of the things I love about this forum and thread (have said it many times- I sound like a skipping record)- we have collectors here who have watches worth more than some luxury cars (or homes) but will still get excited over a $25 Bulova that checks all the boxes.
Lots of makers to learn, lots to acquire, lots to avoid.
This thread is like a group walk through a bazaar where we all point and ogle and comment- it's a group field trip.

Oh, and welcome!

i don't like the case of this one, so i won't be a player..36.5mm bakelite bezel looks nice outside of 15 and 45 that you need more pics on..plus the hr hand needs a touch up

I am no expert but it surely looks original. I can tell you for certain this one is a Frankenstein. https://www.ebay.com/itm/143788013483

Jw is right about these. This article shows the typical dial and hands for these. As I said before, the dial and hands are common for a WWII era Ord watch. I am not sure if they ever used them in the canteen cases.

Years ago straight up modern replica Buship watches made in Japan were for sale on Ebay.
Perhaps the manufacturer of the replica watches is the source of the aftermarket cases?

Condition, condition, condition. Normally I would say this is on the high side for a plated case diver- but it really doesn't get better than this- so premium is worth it. Plus seller says serviced "17j movement" although no jewel count on the dial so can't verify. Seller says 37mm, so good size. Bezel, dial and hands are fantastic. Please buy this so I don't have to.

Edit- I do see a touch of corrosion around the edge of the back where it meets the case and the crown shows plate wear- still, this is an excellent example of one of these inexpensive divers which are normally a disaster.

Yup- great reference thread- I would argue that there is probably a photo of almost every mil-issued watch ever made from around the globe.
What's the story behind the markings on this dial being black on black, all but invisible unless you look closely.
