I am planning on staying in the Glasgow area this Summer to pay a visit to my wife’s family and was wondering if there were any recommendations for car rentals besides the usual players such as Avis, Hertz, etc. And also, whether there are any recommendations for Hotels and/or AirBnB or BnB in that area.

Also considering some day trips, so if there is anything horogically related, please feel free to mention that as well.

Thank you in advance for supporting the Auld Alliance!! 👍

Not sure on car hire, but typically it has been cheaper if you pick up a car away from the airport. That may have normalised, but worth checking if travelling into the city and picking up a car there will be cheaper. If arriving in Edinburgh Airport that's easy on the tram, not sure about Glasgow. Sites like kayak.co.uk allow to search car hire deals, comparing companies and pick up locations.

Watch wise.....like everywhere else we have lots and lots of dealers with absolutely no Rolex to sell or even show 😀 But in Glasgow a visit to the Argyll Arcade would be a must do - several watch shops in there, and up Buchanan Street (which Argyll Arcade is located on). AnOrdain (Scottish watch brand) would be worth looking for - you can see them in Porter and Sons in the Argyll Arcade.

For AirBnB and the like, probably best to ask your wife's family what area they would recommend, and look around there (where is close to them, easy access to motorway, and public transport).

Hopefully that's a little help, but feel free to ask if any specific question and I can try to comment (I'm in central Scotland and know the country pretty well, so can try and help)

Don’t rent a station wagon! The combination of exposed luggage and U-Drive plates will practically guarantee the car will be broken into. Rent a sedan with a big enough trunk to haul your stuff. Tiny cars prevail in the car rental agency lots.
