    Hi all,

This is a continuation of my first thread "Hello from Germany" which I have posted in the "News & members support" - I think the place here might be better due to the topic.

Here is a little background around the story of my vintage Speedy. My year of birth is 1969 and one day I decided to look for a watch which was manufactured in that time period. I got the chance (seven years before) to buy a Rolex Explorer 1016 (I will open a separate thread with pics) and several years later a Breitling Sprint 2010 (I will do the same for that one). Omega Speedies always were part of my wish list and as I have realized that the prices are climbing fast I started the chase. I got this one on Chrono24 for around 4.050 Euros:

The next day after shipment the watch stopped moving at around 9 o'clock. After several discussions with the seller (including the option to send it back) and different assessments from Omega shops and independent watchmakers (they might be able to repair the watch but they do not get spare parts from Omega - in Germany) I decided to order a service at "Juwelier Wagner Madler" in Mainz. I have seen a lot of discussions around services at Omega and the problem that many parts are changed without respecting the authenticity of the watch.

My experience with that Omega dealer is absolutely positive and a recommendation for all German Omega owners who are thinking about a service for their vintage time piece. Here is in detail what they have done (translated with Google - so please excuse some expressions which might sound a bit strange to the native speaker here;):

"Cleaning of case and metal tape. Renewal of all seals. Disassembly of the clockwork, replacement of defective parts, cleaning of all parts in special cleaning machines. Assembly of the movement, oil the bearings and check. Setting the
gear, mounting of dial and pointer play, regulating and inserting into the case. For Waterproof watches - check the water tightness. Finally at least 14-day run control."

I paid in total 735 Euros and what I have heard from other services - this is a "normal" amount. What I can say ... the watch is running now - also beyond the critical point of 9 o'clock.

Here are some pics of the serviced time piece:

If anyone needs a detailed contact for this Omega shop please do not hesitate to ask me.

I know that there is always an intense discussion around authenticity of vintage watches and I also will open some new thread about this topic (it's too late for that today :)) and I am very interested in the feedback of the specialists here.

    Good night to you all.
