My grandfather left me an Omega Automatic with a date of 9-6-52 engraved on the back. I've been searching the internet for 2 weeks looking for a similar watch and can find nothing like it. on the side it has "14k filled" near the band. I can see no way to take the back off. As far as I know it was originally given to my great grandfather in Hungary. I took a bunch of pictures I plan on uploading with it. I would like to know when this was made if possible and if this is something I should put aside or if I can wear this daily. It has some signs of wear and tear but hell, it still works amazing and it looks damn sharp!
Welcome! I would say the watch is genuine Omega. Circa 1950 342 Bumper automatic movement. Dial style is for American market. Case is probably made in USA. Omega Swiss movement. Dial was probably restored at some point. Get it serviced. ~$150. if it doesn't need parts. And the watch will give you much enjoyment thinking about your grandfather. The movement actually "bumps" when it winds on your wrist, very cool.
should I take it to a certain place to get it serviced or just a little more upscale jewelers place? Also, what kind of strap would you suggets if the current one does damage to the case?
where are you located? maybe someone here will recommend someone. What kind of strap/band do you like? 18mm would be the size. Go on ebay and look for something you like.
Fair enough, but if you look at your own pictures (the back view), you'll see where the strap is cutting into the lugs, with damage already showing.
