I found this on vintagewatchclassics.com and pulled the trigger after some initial digging and confirming the return policy, original posting is here http://www.vintagewatchclassics.com/product/vintage-omega-seamaster-bumper-waffle-dial

Basically outlined as a 354 bumper with an untouched dial. I’m concerned because the dial is so clean (there is some wear on the edges) but also the seamaster text is a little more green than I would expect. I feel like everything else seems on based on what I can find research wise for this. I’d like to get some more experienced opinions on authenticity, I’m taking to my watch maker tomorrow to get it checked out and get the case ref number. I’ve included the orignal posting pics as well as my own pictures, please let me know what you guys think. 354CD0C3-C0D3-4EB9-A22C-45DBAC766625.png 013430C6-8192-4F99-AEFC-265A8CA9234D.png AEC8ABC7-100E-47F1-BC4E-B87743B69471.png CB652743-507F-4F27-A9F2-2AC4F62C5115.png 077FCF7C-8CA0-48A7-A291-FC54604C5620.png CB12FC86-D801-4BE9-84FB-35923C6B0436.jpeg A0332604-1920-4990-AB6D-4FC823D8E59E.jpeg 17B4D976-1114-4F09-86CB-D02D068641E9.jpeg B74B7356-308A-4A39-837D-851599D8483D.jpeg 64C0A51F-3AF7-4ED4-817F-0AE44658CC2C.jpeg 1718D246-96DF-45D3-86E4-707932C379C3.jpeg E7D5456C-4226-4507-B7EC-A5067D16948B.jpeg 91ECB068-DF5F-47FF-95E7-24F3077C474B.jpeg 5704433C-5DE0-4065-A2AB-4EC0AE707B25.jpeg

The case is a bit polished. Indices and the waffle dial are stunning but it does look to my eyes to be refinished. The minute markers and circle appears redone as does the 'Omega' and 'Automatic'. The green 'Seamaster' appears to be the original paint, just aged.

    Really lovely dial though:thumbsup:

I think the dial is OK, my concern is how badly beat-up and worn the case is. Some really serious wear to the edges of the lugs.

Far worse than the sellers description: "Excellent condition for case, with just a few light scratches", really?

True, it does have a little more character than anticipated. If the dial is refinished I’ll be sending back since I feel like that compounded with the case isn’t a keeper. But, I could look past it if everything is original.

He was strategic with his selling photos to say the least. Haha

I don’t know anything about authenticity, but doesn’t the price paid for the watch have a bearing on the deal?

I'd be willing to forgive a fair bit if it was under $200.

It was $750 which I’ve had an incedibly hard time finding this configuration period under $1000. Based on the pics the guy had posted and the opportunity to return if needed I thought I’d take a chance.

No lume on dial, but lume on hands? Or are those slots in the hands not for lume?

There is lume on dial: look in the notch at the outer end of the markers.

There has been some kind of work done. If the hands are original, the lume must have fallen all over the dial, which has been at least cleaned.

There is lume on/in the hands and it appears to be original. Not uncommon for lume on a dial and hands to age differently.

I just got back from having my watch maker check this out and he said based on everything he knows and can see it’s not a refinnished dial. I feel better about it now especially since he said it winds super nice, and that I could have done worse for a first vintage buy.
