I've now set my a heart on a speedie and am researching as much as poss before I splash out on one. A guy tried telling me this was a 68 model, but I questioned the obvious moon landing date issue and he now claims the watch is from 69. I have asked for pictures of the caseback and movement which he said he will supply, just wondered if this looked reasonable.

That looks like an 861 speedmaster from the early 1970s. The dot over 90 bezel is correct up to the earliest 861s - the ones with the same caseback as the 145.012 cal. 321 speedmasters.

Looks in nice condition.......although I always need to gently scrub newly acquired watches with an old tooth brush before wearing :p

There isnt much patina on the dial or hands so it lacks a little bit of the character of the older 861's but that could just be the way the picture is taken

Sounds like the seller either doesn't know when it's from and is saying what he thinks you want to hear, or he's hoping you don't find out until it's too late that it's not a 60's watch.
