I did. Unless I missed something it looks real. Just want to get others opinions on it.

The quartz movement changes battery automatically.

I was always wondering how reliable autoquartz movement is and how expensive is service for it.
Watch looks alright to my untrained eye.

This is a "hybrid" movement (electro-mechanical). It has a rotor, just like an automatic wind mechanical movement. The rotor is geared to a charging system which charges a capacitor. A capacitor is unlike a cell, in that it can deliver current, as well as accept recharging through the generating system. I am unfamiliar with the Swiss version of these movements, but I very much dislike the Japanese version! These capacitors are only good for so long, after which they no longer accept a charge. Then, the watch goes to a watchmaker for an expensive capacitor change. The ETA (Swiss) version of these movements operates much more quietly than the Japanese (ie Seiko) version. Personally, I wouldn't have one. None of the advantages of either quartz or mechanical.

The capacitors are pretty easy to change usually involve removing only the rotor and a bridge. I wore one (a different movement) for ten years with the same capacitor. The problem is if you don't wear it regularly and the battery becomes exhausted it will no longer hold a charge. Wearing them only once a year or so I've stopped replacing them and should probably sell the watches. I just don't wanna part with them.

Yes the Japanese movements are noisy and make sort of a "grinding" noise as the rotor spins.

Too bad there are not any photographs in this thread.

I figured if Tissot made one Omega must have one as well. But what did it look like?

I can't see any photos either, but it's a very old thread.

Google image search of Omegamatic gives results that all look like these. I'm not sure if others exist.

Yeah I Giggle searched the name.

Seems like these are amongst the rare. I did get a hoot out of one hit that said the Ranchero was one of Omega's Marketing failures.

I'd take an Omega marketing failure any day... For a zero bid under 100.00$ auction ;)

Edit: thought I would try Omegamatic search on the bay. What is with the fingernails?
