From the lume colour a 145.022-74 with step dial, nice. And yes, this one looks pretty real.

My guess is a tad earlier 145.022-71. It’s not only real but has a lovely flatlink bracelet, gorgeous patina on the hands and enough wrist cheese for a ham sandwich

    Nice find, what’s the story!?

Either a 145.022-71 or -74. Not many 74's featured the step dial, so it's likely a -71 based on 1039 bracelet as well.

    Looks lovely! Nice find:thumbsup:

    My vote is 145.022-71.
There ought to be a date on the clasp which might guide. The clasp date should be same or later than the watch date markings.
Its worth a bit. Its also worth a bit to the guy who lost it, and speaking as a guy who lost a chocolate Speedmaster in Tucson Arizona about 15 years ago, it would be nice if you made even a token effort to re unite the owner - even if you then keep it at least you will know you made an effort.

Incidentally the loss of that chocolate, inspired me like a maniac to replace it - I then spent the next several years hunting and as a result of handling and buying so many that caused me to become a savant in chocolate. I kind of wish I had never lost it, then I would maybe never have hunted so much.Ignorance would have been kinder to my mind and my wallet.

I still have the Omega papers for it, one day it might appear.....

Not exactly the story I was looking for, actually about the complete opposite of what I was expecting. Lost off the wrist? Stolen? Left in a hotel? As someone who has invested so much time in collecting, researching, and sharing knowledge on these watches it would be great to hear that you were eventually reunited with the piece.

Hopefully your sorry will provide some encouragement for @Mshimizu9 to share his

Broken Spring bar, I believe. I turned me off bracelets for a long time. I was travelling around in a car, and for the next two days I went in all the pawn shops and posted papers in the car parks......

I still to this day keep my eye open for the serial.....

    I'm over it, really

I lived in Tucson up till about 5 years ago - sadly I never ran into a chocolate Speedmaster when I lived there. Considering how long I lusted after having one, I would have remembered it if I had. Was it a -69 @Spacefruit ?

Yes. Just picked it up from Orange county, made my two friends drive me all the way to this awful Mall, and the seller was this great Armenian jeweler who owned a store that sold such cheap jewellery that there were no walls. He had a little bench in the back, quite out of keeping with the rest of the mall, and indeed the store. He told me he had bought the watch from a customer and then "Serviced it down to the plates, every last screw". It was an amazing brown.

The ebay auction was for the watch head. I won it for $3700. Which was more than double what a 69 was selling for at the time. Here is the kicker. He handed me the watch, on a leather band. Loveley I said.

"Oh, by the way, do you want the bracelet too?" it was a 1039. Er yes. He threw it in. No charge.

Oh, By the way, Do you want th guarantee too? Its expired"

    Er yes please.

He was a great guy. Then he told me he had four offers over $4000 after the sale but a deal is a deal so here you are.

I always wish I had not let him fit the bracelet......I might still have it....

PS Sorry for the thread drift.....

Not lost or stolen. Found at my uncles house and we weren’t sure whether it was real or not since he also had a Rolex that was an obvious fake!! Figured it couldn’t hurt to check this one out though!

You wouldn’t believe the number of watches that come from an uncle :D

Congratulations on the watch - it’s a real gem and worth a pretty penny! If your uncle is still around, you should get the story from him ::book:: we love stories

If he has sadly past on, he seems to have left a fair bit of him still on the watch. Maybe in years to come he could be genetically reconstructed.

Is there any point hiding the serial number now? Surely it would be better posting the whole thing in case a future owner of the watch Google's it to see if anything comes up. I've always looked up serial numbers of watches, especially when bought from ebay or second hand jewellers.

A lot of DNA from the previous owner on it. ::puke:: Why people do not clean their watches? :(
